Job Title:
Batch Mixer - This is located in Chicago Heights (Only 3rd shift $24 an hour) Job Description The Batch Mixer safely formulates and processes chemical batches by following detailed batch sheets and standard operating procedures. This role involves weighing and handling raw materials, operating mixing and milling equipment, monitoring production processes, and maintaining accurate production records. The position starts with labor-focused tasks and progresses into full responsibility for batch formulation and mixing, with comprehensive training provided by supervisors. Responsibilities Attend daily safety meetings and consistently follow all safety protocols and procedures. Receive and review batch sheets to understand product specifications and production requirements. Formulate chemicals according to batch instructions, ensuring accuracy and consistency. Weigh out raw materials precisely and handle liquids and powders from drums, totes, and bags. Pour and place materials into reactors safely and efficiently. Check and monitor gauges, controls, and instrumentation throughout the batch process. Follow all standard operating procedures (SOPs) for mixing, blending, and chemical handling. Keep detailed and accurate batch records, including materials used, process parameters, and any deviations. Work with batches up to 4,000 gallons, ensuring correct mixing times and conditions. Monitor running machinery such as pumps, mixers, and milling machines to ensure proper operation. Immediately notify maintenance if any issues, malfunctions, or irregularities arise with equipment or processes. Perform housekeeping duties while machines are running or after batches are completed, including sweeping, cleaning, and maintaining an orderly work area. Communicate batch records and production status to the next shift and supervisors at the end of each shift. Work side by side with a helper, providing guidance on basic job duties, safety practices, and workflow. Start by performing labor tasks and progressively take on full responsibilities for formulating and batch mixing as training is completed. Assist with packaging, staging, and preparing orders as needed to support overall production operations. Collaborate with supervisors and team members to meet production goals and maintain a safe, efficient workplace. Essential Skills At least 3 years of manufacturing experience. At least 3 years of experience in blending, formulating, chemical operating, or batch mixing. Ability to accurately weigh and handle raw materials, including liquids and powders. Experience operating production equipment such as pumps, mixers, milling machines, and related machinery. Ability to read and follow batch sheets and standard operating procedures. Strong attention to detail for maintaining precise measurements and accurate batch records. Ability to monitor gauges, controls, and equipment performance and respond appropriately to issues. Capability to perform physical tasks such as lifting, pouring, and moving materials safely. Effective communication skills to coordinate with helpers, coworkers, and supervisors. Flexibility to assist with packaging, staging, and order preparation when needed. Additional Skills & Qualifications Manufacturing experience in chemical or pharmaceutical environments is preferred over food manufacturing. Comfort working with large batch sizes, including batches up to 4,000 gallons. Ability to work effectively in both highly organized and fast-paced, high-volume production settings. Willingness to learn and progress from labor-focused tasks into full batch formulation and mixing responsibilities. Work Environment The work takes place in temperature-controlled chemical manufacturing facilities that focus heavily on safety. One facility is modern, very clean, and recently remodeled, with a smaller workforce, highly organized production floor and warehouse, and carefully arranged inventory and supplies. The other facility is larger and more fast-paced, with a higher volume of production lines, kettles, fillers, and blenders, a bigger workforce, security checkpoints at the entrance, and multiple break rooms. Both locations handle non-harmful chemicals and follow similar operations, including manufacturing, bottling, staging, and shipping products. Work is available across multiple shifts, including a first shift from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, a second shift from 3:30 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. Monday through Friday, and a third shift from 11:30 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. Sunday through Thursday. The environment involves working on the production floor around pumps, mixers, milling machines, and reactors, with an expectation of maintaining a clean, orderly workspace through regular housekeeping activities. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Alsip, IL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $24.00/hr.
