Job Description

The Baler Controller is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of baling machinery used in the recycling process. Reports To MRF Manager Operate the baler in an efficient and safe manner, ensuring that all procedures are followed to maximize productivity and minimize downtime. Report any operational issues or potential upkeep needs to the MRF Manager daily by maintaining a daily journal/log to document activities, concerns, unsafe practices or issues related to the baler operation. Demonstrate knowledge of wire strapper operation and complete preventative servicing to ensure continuous operation. Exhibit understanding of commodities and contamination restrictions to maintain proper bale production and maintain accurate reports of bale counts. Maintain a clean and safe operating area around the baler and perform minor daily servicing tasks by performing continual housekeeping to ensure the baler remains functional. Remove finished bales from the baler, weigh them, and properly place them in the finished goods inventory area. Transport and load bales into recycling containers or trailers for transportation by the recycling company. Perform routine preventative servicing on baler machinery, including the removal of excess trimmings daily to ensure proper flow from all incoming lines. This includes daily check procedures (once per shift) and a minimum of once weekly (per shift) complete cleanup. Ensure the safe and efficient operation of all baler machinery and equipment, including powered industrial lift trucks and other lift equipment. Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow lockout/tagout procedures. Confined space entry is not permitted; notify maintenance if such procedures are required. Complete forklift Vehicle Condition Report (VCR) sheets before the beginning of every shift. Perform other job duties as assigned
Requirements:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) or equivalent combination of education and experience Must have 3 years of forklift experience, forklift operator training preferred. Experience operating baling machinery or similar equipment. Knowledge of safety protocols and PPE requirements. Familiarity with preventative servicing procedures. Ability to multitask. Must be able to read and speak the English language well enough to communicate, understand, and respond to questions, directions, traffic signs, signals, and safety training. Physical Demands / Environmental Factors Ability to lift and move heavy objects. Prolonged standing, bending, and stooping may be required. Must be able to work in an environment with exposure to loud noises, dust, varying temperatures, and heavy machinery. Required to work within proximity to customers and will be exposed to busy traffic patterns.
