Responsibilities:
The Plastics Compounder is responsible for preparing, mixing, and processing raw materials to produce high-quality plastic compounds that meet customer and production specifications. This role operates and monitors compounding and extrusion equipment, ensures product quality, and adheres to safety and operational standards in a manufacturing environment. Prepare and weigh raw materials, resins, colorants, and additives according to production formulas and batch sheet Operate compounding and extrusion equipment, including mixers, feeders, extruders, and pelletizers Set up and adjust machinery settings such as temperature, feed rates, and screw speeds to meet product specification Monitor the production process to ensure consistent product quality and make adjustments as neede Perform changeovers, including cleaning and preparing equipment for new batches or material Inspect finished products (e.g., pellets) for color, consistency, and quality standard Troubleshoot processing issues and collaborate with supervisors or maintenance as neede Perform routine preventive maintenance and basic equipment cleanin Record production data, material usage, and quality checks in logs or system Safely handle materials using forklifts, hoists, or other equipment (if certified Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in compliance with company procedures and OSHA standard Follow all safety guidelines, including use of proper personal protective equipment (PPE Assist with continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and reduce waste
Requirements:
High school diploma or GED Ability to read and interpret work instructions, formulas, and production documentation Basic math skills for measuring and mixing materials Mechanical aptitude and ability to work with industrial equipment Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods Preferred 1-3 years of experience in plastics manufacturing, compounding, or extrusion Experience with polymer resins, additives, and color matching Forklift certification Familiarity with production systems or ERP software
