Experienced Screw Machine Operator & Set Up

Looking for individuals who are mechanically inclined and know their way around different machinery to operate and eventually set up automatic screw machines. These machines are NOT computer controlled (CNC), but mechanical multi spindle machining pieces of equipment.

Operation:

Performs tool maintenance which includes: tool removal; grinding tooling; and replacing tooling without creating scrap. Changes collets and pusher tubes. Makes all adjustments necessary to maintain acceptable quality while keeping the machine under control. Replaces worn tools. Examines machinery to become familiar with tooling set-ups. Loads bar stock into feeding mechanism. Starts machine and observes operation. Adjusts machine controls and changes tool settings to keep dimensions within specified tolerances. Operates grinder to sharpen tools.

Set-Up:

Analyzes specifications and reviews tooling according to knowledge of Screw Machine operations. Installs collets, bushings, stock pushers in stock feeding mechanisms using wrenches and screw drivers. Installs and adjusts cams, gears and stops to control stock and tool movements at each station. Positions and secures tools in tool holders, verifying positions with gauges and other measuring instruments. Verifies conformance of cycle times with layout specifications and makes adjustments if necessary. Moves controls to set cutting speeds and feed rates. Cranks machine through cycle, stopping machine and adjusting tool positions and machine controls to allow for such factors as timing, clearance between moving parts and chip removal. Starts machine, observes operation and verifies conformance to specifications of first run and sample work pieces, using such as plug and ring gauges, calipers and micrometers. Reviews layouts, tooling, cutting speeds, etc. and requests any changes for improved performance.

General Responsibilities:

Keeps the Screw Machine Set-Up/Lead informed of anything that could affect the performance and profitability of the company. Performs any other duties, not specifically stated herein, but which may be assigned by the Screw Machine Set-Up/Lead and those that are logically and properly inherent to this position.
