Job Description

Job Title:
Durable Medical Equipment (DME)
Set-Up Technician Job Summary:
We are seeking a compassionate and detail-oriented Durable Medical Equipment (DME) Set-Up Technician to join our team. The DME Set-Up Technician will be responsible for delivering, setting up, and providing instruction on the safe and effective use of medical equipment in patients' homes. This role requires excellent customer service skills, technical aptitude, and the ability to work independently while ensuring patient comfort and understanding.
Key Responsibilities:
Delivery and Set-Up:
Deliver durable medical equipment (e.g., wheelchairs, hospital beds, oxygen equipment, mobility aids) to patients' homes or healthcare facilities, ensuring timely and accurate setup.
Patient Education:
Provide clear, patient-friendly instructions on the proper use, maintenance, and safety of medical equipment, ensuring patients and caregivers are confident in operating devices.
Equipment Maintenance:
Inspect, test, and maintain equipment to ensure functionality and compliance with safety standards before and after delivery.
Troubleshooting:
Address basic technical issues with equipment during setup and provide ongoing support for minor adjustments or repairs as needed.
Documentation:
Complete accurate records of deliveries, setups, patient interactions, and equipment condition, adhering to company policies and regulatory requirements.
Compliance:
Follow all HIPAA regulations, infection control protocols, and company procedures to ensure patient privacy and safety.
Inventory Management:
Track and manage equipment inventory, reporting any damages, shortages, or maintenance needs to the supervisor.
Customer Service:
Maintain a professional, empathetic demeanor while interacting with patients, families, and healthcare providers, addressing questions and concerns promptly.
Qualifications:
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent; additional training or certification in healthcare or medical equipment preferred.
Experience:
Prior experience in healthcare, customer service, or technical support is a plus but not required; on-the-job training provided.
Skills:
Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact with patients and caregivers. Basic technical aptitude for assembling, troubleshooting, and maintaining medical equipment. Ability to follow detailed instructions and adhere to safety protocols. Time management and organizational skills to manage delivery schedules efficiently.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift and move heavy equipment (up to 50-100 lbs), bend, stoop, and stand for extended periods.
Licenses/Certifications:
Valid driver's license with a clean driving record; reliable transportation required. Certification in DME setup (e.g., ATP or manufacturer training) is a plus.
Other:
Comfortable working independently in patients' homes and traveling within a designated service area.
Work Environment:
Field-based position requiring travel to patients' homes, assisted living facilities, or hospitals. May involve working in various home environments, including navigating stairs or tight spaces. Flexible schedule, including occasional evenings or weekends, depending on patient needs.
