Job Title:
Chemical Terminal Operator Department:
Supply Chain Reports to: Operations Manager •
Pay:
•$20 to $22/hr.
Shift:
1st shift 6am to 4pm (Monday-Friday)
Job Summary:
The Chemical Terminal Operator is responsible for the safe, compliant, and efficient operation of a chemical storage and transfer facility, including railcars, above-ground storage tanks, containment dikes, and associated equipment. This role does not involve a traditional enclosed warehouse. The position is primarily outdoor-based and focused on bulk liquid chemical handling, facility upkeep, and environmental protection. Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Chemical Handling & Transfer Operations:
•Load and unload bulk liquid chemicals from railcars and tanker trucks Perform railcar spotting, securing, and unloading per site procedures Operate pumps, valves, hoses, and transfer systems safely and accurately Monitor product flow, temperatures, and tank levels during transfers Steam railcars as required to maintain proper product temperature Assist with blending or product preparation where applicable
Tank Farm & Containment Management:
•Monitor and maintain above-ground storage tanks, pits, and dikes Inspect and verify proper operation of tank alarms, valves and sight gauges and pressure relief systems Ensure tanks, pits, and secondary containment structures remain structurally sound Pump accumulated water from containment dikes to maintain required spill capacity Identify and report leaks, corrosion, or abnormal conditions immediately Follow all hazardous materials handling procedures, SOPs, and PPE requirements Comply with applicable DOT, OSHA, EPA, PHMSA, and company safety standards Participate in spill prevention, emergency response, and safety training Safety, Environmental & Regulatory Compliance Maintain readiness for audits and inspections
Physical Work & Environment Requirements:
Primarily outdoor work environment Exposure to weather, industrial equipment, and hazardous materials Use of required PPE including respirators, chemical suits, gloves, and eye protection Walking, climbing stairs/ladders, bending, kneeling, and standing for extended periods Calm under pressure•leads with poise and professionalism
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical labor Strong attention to detail and safety awareness Ability to follow written procedures and verbal instructions Willingness to work around hazardous materials
