Machine Saw Operator- Job Description
- This role focuses on operating industrial saws to cut metal materials to precise customer specifications in a fast-paced warehouse and production environment.
You will set up and run saws, manage inventory for each work order, and ensure all products meet quality and measurement requirements. The position requires strong attention to detail, the ability to read blueprints and measuring tools, and a commitment to safety and cleanliness across all work areas. Multiple shifts are available, including first, second, and third shift options.
- Responsibilities
- + Apply metal materials to customer orders and accurately process material according to work order specifications.
+ Set up and operate saws and related machinery to cut metal (such as sheet metal and aluminum) to precise measurements and specifications. + Operate cranes, forklifts, and other material handling equipment safely and efficiently. + Pull, inspect, and verify product before processing to ensure it matches work order requirements. + Properly and safely set up equipment to run material according to setup notes and written work instructions. + Process setup notes according to work order specifications, ensuring all requirements are followed. + Verify that product meets setup note specifications and record measurements following the sampling plan. + Read and interpret blueprints to determine cutting dimensions and requirements for each job. + Use rulers, tape measures, and other measuring tools to ensure accurate cuts and adherence to specifications. + Perform inventory control on each work order, tracking material usage and remaining stock using basic math skills. + Communicate with the appropriate sales representative regarding changes, clarifications, or issues with orders. + Perform equipment preventive maintenance to keep saws and related machinery in safe working condition. + Properly enter and delete material identification tags according to written instructions. + Assist in packaging material according to written work instructions and work order requirements. + Maintain issued measurement equipment in proper working condition and report any issues promptly. + Operate weighing scales correctly and record inspection measurements accurately. + Identify, record, and segregate scrap and non-conforming material according to company procedures. + Provide feedback to supervision regarding machine efficiency, product quality, and process improvements. + Maintain the processing area in a clean, safe, and orderly manner, including general clean-up duties. + Complete all required information entry accurately and in a timely manner. + Complete job responsibilities in a manner that does not put yourself or others in an unsafe situation, following all safety guidelines. + Train other team members on equipment operation and procedures when required. + Assist in activities related to lean initiatives and quality improvement efforts.
- Essential Skills
- + Minimum of 2+ years of saw operation experience working with metals such as sheet metal and aluminum, preferably in a manufacturing or warehouse environment.
+ At least 3+ years of warehouse experience in a manufacturing or distribution environment. + Certification or demonstrated capability in a material handler position. + Proven experience operating industrial saws (e.g., bandsaws and similar metal-cutting saws) in a production setting. + Ability to read and interpret blueprints to determine cutting requirements. + Ability to read and use measuring tools such as rulers and tape measures accurately. + Strong basic math skills for measurements, inventory control, and material calculations. + Ability to operate forklifts and other material handling equipment safely. + Ability to operate cranes and other lifting devices as required. + Ability to read and write to follow work instructions and complete documentation. + High school diploma or GED. + Ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs safely. + Computer literacy sufficient to enter, update, and manage work order and inventory information.
- Additional Skills & Qualifications
- + Previous warehouse experience in the metals industry.
+ Experience with bandsaws and other industrial metal-cutting saws from similar companies. + Experience with additional machine operations such as press brake, punch press, drill press, CNC, waterjet, and other industrial machinery is a plus. + Experience using handheld measuring tools for quality checks and inspections. + Familiarity with lean manufacturing concepts and participation in continuous improvement activities. + Ability to perform preventive maintenance on equipment and recognize early signs of mechanical issues. + Strong attention to detail and quality, with the ability to identify non-conforming material. + Effective communication skills to coordinate with supervisors, sales representatives, and team members. + Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining accuracy and safety.

- Work Environment
- This position is based in a warehouse and production environment focused on metal processing and distribution.
You will work around industrial saws, material handling equipment such as forklifts and cranes, and other machinery including presses, CNC equipment, and related tools. The work involves standing for extended periods, handling metal materials, and lifting up to 40 lbs. Shifts are structured, with first shift typically from 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., second shift from 2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., and third shift from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., while some departments follow standard daytime hours such as 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The facility emphasizes safety, cleanliness, and organization, with clear work instructions, measurement equipment, and computer systems used to manage work orders and inventory.

- Pay and Benefits
- The pay range for this position is $21.20 - $22.20/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your jobclassification and length of employment.
