TPS_1217 This is a paid summer internship. The hours are Monday-Friday from 6:00am- 2:30pm. TPS offers a clean and climate controlled fabrication and welding area- it's warm in the winter and cool in the summer! If you aren't familiar with us, TPS is located in New Columbia, PA, and is a leader in thermal processing products and test solutions. We design and manufactures industrial and laboratory ovens and furnaces, and environmental temperature cycling and stability test chambers. Summary:
This position is responsible for working and assisting in several areas of fabrication, which include machine operation, machining, welding, grinding and material handling as dictated by workflow by performing the following duties: Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Reads blueprint or job order for product specifications such as dimensions and tolerances, and tooling instructions such as fixtures and determines sequence of operations. Learns to set-up and operate fabrication machines and equipment, including cutoff and band saws, shears, rolls, press brakes, CNC punch and laser to cut, shape, and bend metal. Selects, positions, and secures tool in tool holder from CNC programming and positions and secures work piece in holding device, machine table, or fixtures. Moves controls to position tool and work piece in relation to each other, and to set specified feeds, speeds, and depth of cut. Observes operation of machine and verifies conformance of work piece to specifications. Operates CNC grinder to sharpen tools. Assists with keeping accurate inventory control thru data input of material usage into the AS400 inventory control system. Learns about machine operation and assists with basic preventative maintenance of equipment.

Experience:
Currently enrolled in a Fabrication program at a Vocational Technical school or accredited college or technical school.
Language Skills:
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Able to accurately measure with a tape measure and square to 1/32" and convert decimals to fractions.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Computer Skills:
Basic computer skills including Excel and/or Google Sheets preferred.
Other Qualifications:
Ability to distinguish stainless steel, carbon steel and aluminum; able to read blue prints/schematics.
