PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
Are you enthusiastic about cultivating talent and enhancing skills in others? As the Manager of Machine Operator Qualifications, you will be a key facilitator in implementing and managing effective training programs for machine operators across CPKC's Southern region territory. In this position, you will train, mentor, and assess Engineering employees to ensure they meet the required standards of proficiency and machine operation. You will also be responsible for maintaining comprehensive training records, identifying further training opportunities, and overseeing the qualification and disqualification processes for Engineering personnel. This role is crucial for driving operational excellence, advancing workforce capabilities, and upholding the organization's safety standards.
POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES
Provideleadership and support to union mentors guiding machine operators through the qualification process, ensuring high standards of skill and safety Design schedule, and deliver hands-on field training covering operator manuals, safety procedures (including lockout/tagout), preventive maintenance, and field guides Collaborate closely with the Technical Training department to coordinate additional learning opportunities that strengthen operators' expertise Identify gaps and contribute to the creation and rollout of innovative training solutions for ongoing improvement in operator performance Oversee all training and qualification documentation within the Learning Management System (LMS) & Rail Tasker, verifying operators' readiness before role assignments Investigate equipment or machine incidents, analyze root causes, and recommend corrective actions, including operator retraining or disqualification when necessary Manage the bulletin awards process for Production, ensuring fair and qualified placement of machine operators consistent with company standards Foster strong working relationships with employees, clarifying expectations for inspection processes and preventive maintenance, and promoting a positive work environment
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
High school diploma or general equivalency 5 years of proven success in production crew operations or work equipment maintenance, demonstrating deep expertise in the field Strong leadership skills and a track record of effective training, mentoring, and motivating others A valid driver's license and readiness to support on-site operational needs Comprehensive knowledge of engineering field practices, production crew dynamics, Maintenance of Way equipment (MOW), and strict adherence to safety procedures Full qualification in Operating Rules and Track Safety Rules, ensuring a commitment to industry standards Clear understanding of Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBAs), particularly those governing qualification and disqualification processes Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) to manage documentation, reports, and training materials with ease

Management Conductor Program Becoming a qualified conductor or locomotive engineer is the single best way for a management employee to learn the business at CPKC. You may be required to obtain a certification or to maintain your current certification/qualification as a conductor or locomotive engineer.
