Job Description

Position Summary The Set-Up Operator positions set-up and operate machine tools and equipment in their designated department, such as welding machines, punch or brake presses, tooling instructions, and standard charts, applying knowledge of machining methods. •Classification as a Set Up Operator I, II, or III is based on the employee's score from the Skills Checklist Essential Functions Continuously safely perform all required tasks, adhering to all established safety rules and procedures. Must take immediate action to correct and/or report any unsafe conditions and hazards. Take an active role in caring for the equipment to prevent breakdowns and defects and help increase overall equipment efficiency through 5S, TPM (total productive maintenance), and other Lean Manufacturing initiatives directed by the Sedalia site. The employee in this position will be responsible for all aspects of general equipment effectiveness and reliability, total productive maintenance, and equipment setup. He/she will also be responsible for all aspects of general equipment preventive/ corrective maintenance including TPM checklist completion, performing minor machine repairs/ rebuilds, knowledge of basic electrical and mechanical systems, plumbing repair and installation, basic knowledge of hydraulic/pneumatic systems, inspecting equipment for needed repairs and entering work order information into the system for scheduling of work and performing preventative maintenance procedures on all equipment as required. Minor equipment modifications are also required of all equipment. Some examples of the level of modifications include machine guarding, sensor locations, and equipment improvements. The Set-Up Operator II shall be capable of performing all of the diversified set-up operations, following all plant and department safety rules, and meeting satisfactory performance requirements. Additional responsibilities include good housekeeping and other assignments as directed by the Supervisor. The Set-Up Operator II shall be able to work overtime as requested and posted by management. Weld The employee shall be capable of setting up, adjusting and operating all Departmental Welding Machines so that parts will be joined by a series of spot welds of acceptable quality as determined by departmental quality standards. The set-up operator shall be capable of controlling the required dimensions using jigs and fixtures as furnished. He/she shall be capable of determining the number of welds and contact cycles as well as regulating current, set such automatic timing devices as are included on the equipment, rig the necessary equipment for welding and positioning work. The employee shall be capable of changing and dressing electrodes, repositioning arms and/or heads, and in any other way be capable of preparing the equipment to do the work necessary for the job involved. Train all new hires and ship ins.
