Job Summary:
The Machine Shop Floater is responsible for learning machining operations and must be capable of supporting multiple areas across the shop floor. The Machine Shop Floater will operate various machines, perform basic setups, assist with material handling, and step in wherever needed to maintain workflow and productivity. The Machine Shop Floater must always maintain a high standard of safety, quality and productivity.Duties/Responsibilities:
Set up and operate a variety of machines including manual lathes, mills, grinders, punch press and other manual machines/equipment as needed. Measure cut and shape metal and other materials using tools such as saws, grinders, and shears and torches. Mount fixtures into machines. Position work and check machine operation. Read blueprints to determine what equipment and materials are necessary for the job. Assist with set-ups and changeovers on machines to support production schedules. Fill in for absent operators or during peak workloads in different areas of the shop. Perform basic inspection of parts using calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other measuring tools. Perform first piece inspection of part before running quantities. Check parts using SPC techniques. Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment. Follow safety protocols and report any unsafe conditions immediately. Perform additional tasks as directed by management.Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent required; technical or vocational training a plus. Familiarity with manual machine operation a plus. Ability to read and understand blueprints and interpret technical drawings. Comfortable using hand tools and measuring equipment. Strong problem-solving skills and adaptability. Must be able to read and communicate in English. Forklift certification is a plus (or willingness to obtain). Maintain a safe working environment and 5S standards.Similar remote jobs
