Job Title:
Production / Extrusion Technician Job Description This hands-on role focuses on operating and maintaining a vinyl siding extrusion line to produce high-quality products that meet strict customer and certification standards. You will take ownership of an extrusion line, perform set-ups and teardowns, troubleshoot equipment issues, and continuously improve line performance and product quality in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. The position follows a 12-hour, 2-2-3 shift schedule, working either 7:00am-7:00pm or 7:00pm-7:00am. Responsibilities Set up and tear down extrusion lines, including installing, changing, and aligning dies, and preparing the line for production. Start up extrusion lines and achieve stable operating conditions that produce quality finished vinyl siding products. Operate and monitor extrusion machinery to maintain consistent production rates and product specifications. Troubleshoot mechanical and process issues on extrusion lines to minimize downtime and scrap. Produce quality product at the lowest possible cost by optimizing machine settings, materials usage, and workflow. Operate and manage equipment required to package finished products, ensuring proper labeling and packaging standards. Assist and lead personnel assigned to the extrusion line, providing guidance to support safe and efficient operations. Continuously observe product quality during production and make necessary adjustments to meet VSI certification and internal quality standards. Use company instruments and tools such as micrometers, precision rules, pliers, screwdrivers, vise grips, "C" clamps, and fixtures to measure and adjust components. Maintain accurate and complete production records, including production rates, total output, scrap amounts, set-up times, and downtime incurred. Perform general material handling, including staging materials, preparing packaging, and supporting related tasks to maintain production flow. Follow all posted safety standards and procedures in work areas and participate in maintaining a safe work environment. Maintain good housekeeping practices to keep the work area clean, organized, and free of hazards at all times. Move between two facilities (North and South plants) as needed to support production requirements. Essential Skills Experience in plastics manufacturing, particularly in extrusion processes and extrusion molding. Hands-on experience with troubleshooting production and extrusion machines and resolving mechanical issues. Proficiency with die maintenance, including installation, changeover, and repair of extrusion dies. Ability to use precision measuring tools such as micrometers and precision rules accurately. Strong quality control focus, including the ability to inspect products and adjust processes to meet specifications and certifications. Mechanical aptitude with experience working on production machines and mechanical systems. Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language to follow work instructions, safety procedures, and production documentation. Good communication skills to interact effectively with team members and support personnel. Good math and problem-solving skills to calculate measurements, interpret data, and make process adjustments. Ability to learn and retain detailed product and process knowledge. Physical ability to stand, walk, sit, use hands, reach, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl as required by daily tasks. Ability to lift, carry, and move up to 100 lbs frequently in a manufacturing environment. Vision capabilities including close, distance, color, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Mobility to move between and within two plant facilities as required. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with extrusion machine operation in a high-volume manufacturing environment. Experience in diesel repair or general mechanical repair, demonstrating strong mechanical troubleshooting skills. Experience with installation and assembly work related to production machinery or industrial equipment. Familiarity with extrusion process optimization to improve quality, throughput, and material usage. Comfort using common hand tools such as pliers, screwdrivers, vise grips, and clamps in a production setting. Prior experience in a fast-paced, noise-intensive manufacturing facility. Ability to work a 12-hour, 2-2-3 rotating schedule on either day or night shift. Why Work Here? Work Environment This role is based in a fast-paced manufacturing facility with large production machinery and extrusion equipment. The noise level is consistent with heavy industrial operations, and ear and eye protection must be worn at all times. Steel-toed shoes and long pants are required as part of the standard dress code, and free safety shoes and prescription safety glasses are provided. The facility temperature is maintained but can be influenced by outside weather conditions, so conditions may vary with the seasons. Work is physically active and involves frequent standing, walking, lifting, and moving materials, as well as working around moving mechanical equipment. The position requires mobility between two plant locations (North and South plants) to support production needs. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Columbus, OH. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $46716.80
  • $56139.20/yr.
