Machine Operator Job Description This role operates and monitors metal fabrication equipment on a wire mesh production line that supports products such as fencing, decking, and other industrial applications. You will work with a variety of machines that stamp, cut, and form metal components, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality production in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Responsibilities Operate and monitor wire mesh production equipment and related metal fabrication machines, including stamping machines and other metal-forming equipment. Set up machines according to production specifications, including adjustments for dimensions, materials, and required tolerances. Use hand tools and power tools to perform basic adjustments, changeovers, and minor repairs on equipment as needed. Read and interpret blueprints, production drawings, and tape measure readings to ensure products meet required measurements and quality standards. Perform routine preventive maintenance tasks on machines to support safe and reliable operation. Troubleshoot basic mechanical issues with equipment and escalate complex problems to maintenance when necessary. Inspect finished products for quality, verifying dimensions and appearance, and make adjustments to machines to correct defects. Work along a production line to maintain consistent output and meet daily production goals. Follow all safety procedures and guidelines while working with machinery, tools, and materials. Maintain a clean and organized work area, including proper handling and storage of tools, materials, and finished products. Essential Skills Mechanical aptitude and the ability to work with machines, tools, and mechanical systems. Ability to safely operate and monitor production machinery in a manufacturing environment. Basic proficiency with hand tools and power tools for adjustments and minor repairs. Ability to read a tape measure accurately and verify measurements against specifications. Capability to read and understand blueprints or production drawings. Willingness and ability to work in a non-climate-controlled manufacturing facility. Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work. Reliability and consistency in following safety procedures and production processes. Additional Skills & Qualifications Previous machine operation experience in a manufacturing or production setting. Experience with CNC machines, press brakes, shears, lathes, mills, or similar metal fabrication equipment. Background in fabrication, machining, or metalworking environments. Experience with troubleshooting, repair, and preventive maintenance of production equipment. Ability to perform machine setup for different production runs and materials. Work Environment This position is based in a manufacturing facility that is non-climate controlled, so temperatures will vary with the seasons. You will work around active production lines, metal fabrication equipment, and machinery such as stamping machines and other metalworking tools. The schedule includes structured shifts, such as a first shift from 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM, Monday through Thursday, with additional shifts available. The environment is hands-on and fast-paced, with a focus on safety, teamwork, and consistent production output. Appropriate workwear suitable for a manufacturing and metal fabrication setting is required, including adherence to all safety and personal protective equipment guidelines. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Columbus, OH. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $41600.00 - $45760.00/yr.
