Job Description

Job Summary We are seeking a highly skilled and precision-driven Slitter Machinist / Machine Operator to command our high-speed converting and slitting lines. Unlike a general production assistant role, this position requires a true technical operator who will take full ownership of the machinery. You will be responsible for independent machine setups, calculating precise blade tolerances, executing technical changeovers, and performing constant mechanical troubleshooting. The ideal candidate brings strong mechanical grit, a background in advanced machine operations, and a strict commitment to quality control standards.
Key Responsibilities Machine Operation & Command:
Setup, program, and operate high-speed slitting and converting machinery to process materials according to precise engineering specifications.
Precision Technical Setup:
Independently execute complex machine setups and changeovers. This includes adjusting tension controls, setting mandrels, and precisely aligning circular slitting blades using hand tools.
Mechanical Troubleshooting:
Continuously monitor machine performance, gauges, and readouts to diagnose mechanical discrepancies and minimize line downtime through immediate troubleshooting.
Quality Control & Micrometer Precision:
Perform highly detailed visual and structural inspections of finished rolls. Utilize micrometers, calipers, and precision measurement tools to ensure exact tolerances are maintained and eliminate material defects.
Blade Maintenance & Tooling:
Safely manage, change, and maintain critical machine tooling and cutting blades to ensure optimal operational efficiency and clean fabrication edge cuts.
Material & Safety Management:
Manage the staging of master rolls onto the machine spindles. Adhere strictly to all high-speed industrial safety protocols, lock-out/tag-out (LOTO) procedures, and corporate safety policies.

•PrideStaff Cincinnati • Sourcing Profile 1
Qualifications & Skills Experience:
Minimum 2-3+ years of experience operating manufacturing machinery, ideally high-speed slitting, rewinding, converting, or web-handling equipment (Printing, Packaging, or Paper/Plastics processing background highly valued).
Technical Aptitude:
Strong mechanical background as a machinist. Proven ability to read production blueprints, use precision measuring tools (calipers/micrometers), and understand dimensional tolerances.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds independently, handle heavy industrial tool setups, and stand for long periods in a fast-paced production environment.
Personal Attributes:
Strong mechanical troubleshooting mindset, highly detail-oriented, dependable, and capable of operating heavy machinery with minimal direct supervision.
