Job Description
Responsibilities:
- Review monthly and quarterly build schedule to optimize equipment set-up and run times.
- Monthly scheduling of CNC equipment will require short run planning with multiple fixturing set-ups and tear downs of each machine. Our manufacturing facility is a low volume, large product mixes each month.
- Assigned daily work assignments. Schedule daily and weekly working hours including overtime as needed to meet the monthly production plan.
- Review programs to verify optimum part cycle times.
- Verify proper equipment feeds and speeds are being utilized.
- Verify staff is meeting set-up and run times per the work orders. Modify set-up and run times are required when process is optimized.
- Verify proper tooling is being used for the machining process.
- Responsible for purchasing all tooling for the department.
- Able to design cutting fixtures for mills and lathes.
- Able to write programs using Mastercam on complex parts.
- Train new employees on proper part set-ups (offsets, tool changes, select proper CNC program).
- Verify daily/weekly equipment preventative maintenance is being performed.
- Discipline employees as required.
- Review daily labor efficiency report for poor performing jobs and make the proper process improvements to maintain a run efficiency as stated on the work order.
- Able to set-up and run both CNC mills and lathes to cover for employees on vacation or sick.
- Make sure the department is clean and all tools are put away at the end of the shift.
- Troubleshoot equipment for service call.
- Communicate with management regarding issues with equipment (new equipment, service equipment, capability limitations of equipment regarding products.
- Meet daily with production support staff to review/report on material issues, product build priorities to maintain a consistent flow of product through the manufacturing facility, tooling needs, equipment issues, and personnel concerns.
- Meet weekly with the operation's support staff to review the status of the monthly production plan and identify material issues, machine capacity concerns, and personnel capacity issues which may affect the success of maintaining the monthly production plan.
- Identify new equipment and processes needed to improve the department's efficiencies. If new equipment is identified a full equipment justification will be developed to show equipment pay back.
- Maintain a positive moral and safe working environment.
Requirements:
- Five plus years of experience managing a CNC machine shop.
- Minimum 5 years programming, set-up and running CNC mills and lathes.
- Minimum 3 to 5 years programming parts using Mastercam or equivalent.
- Good communications skills and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in MS Word, EXCEL, and Outlook.
- Proficiency using an ERP system to create work orders, modify set-up and run times, review material status (inventory on hand or on order), review employee labor efficiency, and work order labor efficiency.
- Knowledge of Auto Cad and Solid Works is helpful.
- Able to read and interrupt engineering drawings.
- Able to work effectively both independently and as a team member.
