Portland, OR Join a leading structural steel fabrication company where precision meets production. We are seeking an experienced CNC Machine Operator who thrives in a fast-paced, heavy industrial environment and takes pride in quality workmanship.

Job Description:

The Machine Operator plays a key role in the production process, operating CNC machinery used in structural steel fabrication. This position involves machine setup, material handling, quality inspection, and routine maintenance while maintaining strict safety standards. The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, detail-oriented, and experienced with structural steel equipment and processes.

Responsibilities for the job include:

Set up and operate CNC machinery according to production requirements and work orders Run equipment such as Anglemaster, Plateburner, and Beamline systems for cutting, drilling, punching, and marking Monitor machine performance to ensure accuracy and consistent output Perform test runs and make program adjustments as needed Load and position raw materials using forklifts or overhead cranes Ensure proper alignment and secure placement prior to operation Remove finished parts and inspect for quality using precision tools Conduct in-process and final inspections using calipers, micrometers, gauges, and blueprints Identify defects, tooling issues, or programming errors and take corrective action Maintain accurate logs of machine settings, production counts, and quality checks Perform routine machine maintenance including cleaning, lubrication, and minor repairs Report major mechanical issues and coordinate with maintenance teams Follow all OSHA and company safety protocols, including PPE and lockout/tagout Collaborate with supervisors and team members to meet daily production goals Communicate material shortages, equipment issues, and quality concerns Maintain accurate production documentation and tracking records

Experience and Skills Required:

Minimum 4 years of CNC machine operation in a structural steel fabrication environment (required) Ability to read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and technical specifications Experience with Peddinghaus machinery (Anglemaster, Plateburner, Beamline) or similar equipment Proficient with precision measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, squares) Strong understanding of steel grades and fabrication processes Valid forklift certification preferred; overhead crane experience a plus High school diploma or equivalent required; trade or technical training preferred Ability to stand for long periods, lift up to 50 lbs, and work in a noisy environment Strong attention to detail, mechanical aptitude, and commitment to safety and quality
