Job Description

Erie Bronze & Aluminum Company, a worldwide producer of non-ferrous castings for the valve, compressor, glass container and defense industries has an immediate opening for a Foundry Assistant . In this position you will work in various departments of the foundry including melt/pour off, molding, cleaning, and shipping/receiving to perform a variety of tasks supporting the direct labor operations of Erie Bronze and Aluminum. The successful candidate will also utilize planning techniques and work with minimal supervision while properly using the protective equipment required for the job. Candidates must have recent experience in a manufacturing environment and a solid work history with excellent references. Foundry experience is not required, but experience working in hot temperatures is a plus. Candidates must be able to safely lift and handle weights of up to 50 lbs unassisted, have basic computer skills, be able to read, comprehend numbers, and do elementary math. Successful candidate must pass pre-employment background and drug screens.
Essential Job Functions:
Assisting with melting raw materials, verifying proper chemistry, and pouring molten metal into sand molds made on either of our two molding lines. Preheating, cleaning, and preparing furnaces and ladles to maximize melt capacities. Following verbal instructions and written procedures on pour-off sheets and recording all required information as directed by Quality. Supporting molders to produce quality sand molds by preparing sand, setting up patterns, cores, and chills, and stripping the castings from the molds. Operating different types of grinding and cutting equipment to remove gates and risers from sand castings. Visually inspecting castings for scrap and alerting quality. Operating and/or loading of the blast cleaning machine. Keeping equipment operating in a safe and efficient manner and alerting maintenance of any issues. Housekeeping of general shop, including sweeping and shoveling sand, transferring castings from shakeout to the cleaning room, and loading and unloading various materials. Abide by all pertinent operating procedures, instructions, and good foundry practice to maintain the quality objectives of Erie Bronze & Aluminum Company. Notify supervisor of any practices or conditions detrimental to meeting the foundry quality objectives. All work must be performed in accordance with the company's safety policies. Complete any other tasks assigned by supervision to meet the ongoing needs of the organization.
