Position Description Position Summary The Milling Machine Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of asphalt milling equipment to remove existing pavement for resurfacing or repair. This role involves setting up and controlling milling machines, monitoring operations for quality and precision, and performing basic maintenance on the equipment. The Milling Machine Operator will work closely with crew members to ensure projects are completed on schedule, to specifications, and in compliance with all safety regulations. Key Duties & Responsibilities Operate milling machines to remove asphalt or concrete surfaces to the required depth and grade. Set up milling machine controls, speeds, and settings according to job specifications. Monitor milling operations to ensure proper depth, slope, and smoothness. Coordinate with foreman, truck drivers, and ground crew to maintain consistent production flow. Perform daily pre-operational and post-operational equipment inspections. Complete routine maintenance such as greasing, cleaning, and replacing wear parts. Troubleshoot minor equipment issues and report major repairs to the supervisor. Maintain a clean and safe work area around the milling operation. Follow all safety policies, including the use of required personal protective equipment (PPE). Signal and communicate with other crew members to coordinate machine movement and truck positioning. Assist with general labor duties when milling operations are not active. Position Requirements Qualifications & Requirements Minimum 2 years of experience operating asphalt milling machines or similar heavy equipment. Knowledge of milling machine operation, controls, and maintenance. Ability to read and understand grade stakes, plans, and specifications. Familiarity with DOT and OSHA safety regulations. Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment. Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen. Physical Requirements & Work Environment Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and dust. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and perform tasks that require bending, kneeling, climbing, and standing for extended periods. Work in high-noise environments and around heavy machinery.
