Job Description
DUTIES AND
RESPONSIBILITIESAssociate operates and maintains equipment on one or more extrusion lines. Associate must be able to run all products and lines without assistance. Must ensures that extruder outputs are consistent with product specifications. Associate maintains quality assurance by inspecting finished product for consistency within established product quality specifications and by reviewing and testing all product on a scheduled basis. Associate ensures all testing equipment is in proper working order and rejects all unacceptable product. Verify operational status of all equipment on assigned line according to start-up check listMaintain extruder and all peripheral line equipment settings (embosser, sterlco, dies, MRF, etc.) to produce outputs that are consistent with product specificationsPerform Quality Assurance responsibilities that include conducting a variety of tests on finished product to determine product quality within an established range of performanceNotify Supervisory personnel of deviations for prompt and accurate correction(s)Communicate with Maintenance Department and Manufacturing Shift Supervisor about machine malfunctionsPerform preventive maintenance on most equipment on the production floor and maintain bar coders, if applicableMust also be proficient in extruder troubleshooting and basic mechanical repairsCommunicate with Manufacturing Shift Supervisor regarding raw materials needed to meet product specification Ensure proper hook-up of raw materials to extruder hopperMust be capable of performing all Quality Assurance procedures including rejecting all out-ofspecification product and placing questionable product on "hold" for disposition by management personnel
  • Recommend 100% audit of line run or grind of product, if indicatedMust demonstrate the ability to start and maintain a production shift by delegating shift assignments and making the necessary changes throughout the entire shiftMust complete Train the Trainer certification class and attend the Basic Principals leadership class
  • Associate must demonstrate the ability and accept the responsibility of training all EA3's on their shiftMust show leadership initiatives through involvement in teams or documented project workMust demonstrate the ability to run all products, all extrusion lines and run multiple lines when requiredMonitor Extrusion Associate 1s and 2s to ensure consistency and quality of product packed and application of proper packing techniquesRelieve line EA1s and EA2s for breaksPerform all functions as outlined in the Extrusion Associate 4 job descriptionPunch time clock before and after shift to record time workedDemonstrate knowledge of computers and common software (word and excel)Observe health and safety practices when handling bacon stripsMust be able to handle multiple tasks by establishing priorities and careful time management with minimal supervision • Perform other related duties and assignments as requiredMaintain supplies at workstationCommunicate with Material Handler(s) to move full warehouse racksAid with training of new personnel in extrusion and quality assurance areasAssist with training of temporaries and new hires in Extrusion Associate 1s, 2s, 3s and 4sFloats to relieve Extrusion Associate 1s, 2s, 3s, and 4s for breaksAttend weekly shift meetings and monthly All Hands Forum, if requiredActively participate in all plant safety programs, depending on locationNotify Supervisor if proper tools are not furnished to complete job functionsAssist with production equipment maintenanceQualificationsHigh School Graduate/GEDThree years of directly related experience (e.
g., EA3 and EA4) is requiredMust be able to read, write and have working knowledge of machine mechanicsGood mechanical aptitude and above average math aptitudeMust possess common sense, positive attitude, and demonstrate excellent attendanceMust be quality and safety conscious, a team playerMust have good communication skills and be able to interact with peopleMust have ability to operate computer and ten key as well as ability to use and read calipers and micrometers to within one thousandth of an inchMust be able to work quickly with product and be able to lift up to 86lbs on a continual basis above shoulder height and below the waist and ability to team lift 87 to 100lbs, keep colors separate, and records weights accuratelyMust have excellent manual dexterity and be detail orientedOperate, read, and interpret test equipment and findingsExtensive standing, frequent bending, lifting, pulling, pushing, reaching, twisting and walkingExtreme weather conditions, and conflicts over acceptable product quality possible
Equipment/Tools Used:
Hearing protection, safety glasses, tape measure, sawing glove, hack saw, packing gloves, tool box and contents, stamp and stamp padSafe work performance is required from each Associate at all timesPerform all duties and responsibilities in a safe manner in accordance with applicable Health and Safety ManualsRequired to wear or use personal protective equipment as applicable and to immediately report unsafe working conditionsComply with all legislative requirements as outlined by Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations
