Job Description

We are looking for a first and second shift Laser Operator. First shift hours are from 6am
  • 4pm and second shift is from 4pm-2am with a $2/hour shift differential.
Job Summary Sets up, edits and operates CNC Laser cutting machines to cut and/or etch aluminum, carbon and stainless steel to precise specifications while adhering to specific internal and customer-driven quality standards and scheduling requirements in a metal fabrication environment. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Sets up, edits and operates CNC laser machines according to engineering specifications and work orders. Selects tooling, jigs, laser heads and fixtures to perform a broad range of cutting and etching operations. Reviews work order, prints and drawings for raw material specifications and special instructions. Verifies assist gas matches setup, product and safety requirements and specifications. Sets focal point, adjusts nozzle standoff distance and takes power readings. Downloads operating program to CNC console and verifies there are no computer problems or data discrepancies present. May be required to edit program also. Loads and unloads material and parts manually or by using material handling equipment. Ensures parts are free of burrs and slag. Runs and verifies first piece and inspects part for conformity to work order and quality standards. Monitors and evaluates machine operation and maintains part quality specifications throughout a run. Troubleshoots production problems, their causes and takes appropriate corrective action. Reports improper operation, faulty equipment, defective materials and unusual conditions to supervisor. Maintains necessary records and workflow processes. Keeps work area and equipment in a safe, clean and orderly condition. Knows and complies with all personal, machine and facility safety practices and regulations; understands and follows company workplace rules. Essential Physical Requirements Must be able to lift 0

  • 75 pounds occasionally; over 75 pounds rarely.
Must be able to routinely stand, sit, stoop, twist and bend throughout a nine-hour shift. Must have excellent manual dexterity and some ambidexterity. Visual acuity (corrected) required for reading machine controls, written material, blueprints and precision measuring instruments used in the inspection of parts. Hearing ability sufficient to monitor machine sounds to identify and diagnose changes in order to take appropriate action. Skills and Abilities Must understand basic principles of laser technology and beam generation including the role of assist/resonator gasses, power requirements and material properties. Must be able to read and interpret work orders, blueprints, drawings, layouts and technical / non-technical information and use this information to evaluate and execute a laser process. Must be able to use standard measuring tools, hand tools and material handling equipment commonly used in metal manufacturing. Must be proficient in math and able to competently apply it in the production process. Must be familiar with shop equipment such as grinders, drill presses, saws, etc. Must be able to communicate and interact successfully with supervisors and co-workers. Must be able to work and pay attention to detail in a fast-paced team environment, but also be able to work independently with minimal supervision. Must have an excellent work ethic and superior attendance. Education and Experience Required Experience with Mazak Laser set up and operation desired. CNC equipment experience in fabrication and machining industry desired. Minimum High School Diploma / GED required. Valid state drivers license required.
