Saw Operator (Metals)
Part-time Classification:
Hourly, Non-Exempt Reports to: Manufacturing Manager In the performance of respective tasks and duties all HART employees are expected to perform his/her work in accordance to the HART values: Integrity, Quality, Customer-Employee-Family Focus, Continuous Improvement, Accountability and Safety. Summary/Objective The Saw Operator - Sets up and operates power saws to cut, slot, groove, miter, and trim metallic and nonmetallic workpieces according to specifications. Selects and installs blades on machine, using hand tools. Sets controls to adjust speed, feed rate and tensions. Positions guides, stops, holding blocks, or other fixtures to secure and direct work piece, using hand tools, and measuring devices. Scribes reference lines on material as guide for sawing operations, according to blue prints, templates, sample parts or specifications. Mounts workpiece in holding device manually or using hoist. Operates saw to cut along scribe lines. Verifies dimensions of finished work piece using measuring devices. A saw operator cuts material to specified requirement maintaining quality and safety standards; keeping records; maintaining equipment and supplies. Essential Functions Prepare and operate power saws to perform tasks such as cut, saw, slot, groove etc… Coordinate with machinists to implement and enhance production efficiencies Analyze job orders, drawings, blueprints, specifications, and design data in order to calculate part dimension compatibility with machines machine capability, adjust speeds, and feed rates Professionally communicate and work with others in all departments, as needed, to troubleshoot any issues Provide progress, status, and troubleshooting reports to management Understand specifications of the task at hand and the desired result by reading blueprints, mechanical drawings etc. Prepare and load raw materials and parts onto the machines Monitor the saw machines while they execute cuts and make any necessary adjustments to produce a better result Inspect and measure finished products and compare them with requirements to determine if the process has been completed properly Perform all secondary machining functions required to produce a quality part Check and maintain machinery daily to ensure functionality Maintains the work area and equipment in a clean, orderly condition and follows prescribed safety procedures Completes and maintains paperwork for parts Assists in other work areas as needed such as assembly, inspection, building/grounds maintenance Supervisory Responsibility This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities. Work Environment While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment can be loud. Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The position requires frequent lifting, pushing and pulling objects that are 30 pounds or heavier. Position Type and Expected Hours of Work This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday - hours and days of the week can be discusses. Flex hours may be allowed. Overtime including weekends may be occasionally required. Travel No travel is expected for this position. Required Education and Experience High school diploma or graduation from a certified technical school, preferred Minimum one year of related experience, required Additional Eligibility Qualification Skill in operating saw machinery and hand tools as well as precision measurement tools Saw setup experience Blueprint reading, shop math, and understanding of measuring devices Ability to professionally communicate and work with others in both the Engineering and Production/Assembly teams Strong attention to detail and ability to handle multiple priorities Must be self-motivated and positive AAP/EEO Statement HART Design & Manufacturing is an Equal Employment Opportunity Employer.
