Job Title:
Packaging Machine Operator Job Description The Packaging Machine Operator sets up, operates, and cleans sleeving, bottling, and packaging machines to ensure products are packaged safely, efficiently, and to high quality standards. This role monitors machine performance, makes necessary adjustments, and follows strict food safety and regulatory guidelines while supporting overall production efficiency. Responsibilities Operate sleeving, bottling, and packaging machines in accordance with established procedures and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP). Set up work area and assist with machine setup to prepare for production runs. Monitor machines to ensure sleeves are applied correctly to bottles and that bottles do not back up or jam on the line. Verify that date codes are accurate for each production run and make adjustments as needed. Perform basic troubleshooting and routine maintenance on machines to address issues immediately and minimize downtime. Communicate machine status, production issues, and unacceptable bottle quality to the supervisor or Plant Manager in a timely manner. Relieve other Machine Operators during machine downtime or job reassignments to help maintain departmental efficiency and production quality. Follow Sanitization Standard Operating Procedures (SSOP) and maintain a clean and organized work area. Perform all duties in compliance with quality and safety standards, including HACCP, FDA, EPA, OSHA, USDA, WDA, and customer requirements. Conduct work behavior in accordance with company policies and procedures. Report to the workstation on time and wear proper work attire as required by Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). Lift and move materials or products, as needed, up to 50 lbs to support production and packaging activities. Perform additional duties as assigned to support production and operational goals. Essential Skills At least 2+ years of machine operator experience, preferably in a production or packaging environment. Hands-on experience operating packaging machines, sleeving machines, bottling machines, and filling machines. Ability to set up and operate machines in accordance with production requirements and SOPs. Ability to perform basic troubleshooting and routine maintenance on production and packaging equipment. General production experience, including working on fast-paced manufacturing or packaging lines. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs as part of daily job duties. Familiarity with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) in a production or food manufacturing environment. Attention to detail to ensure correct date codes, proper sleeve application, and acceptable product quality. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and adhere to safety, quality, and regulatory standards. Reliability in reporting to work on time and consistently following required procedures and policies. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience working with sleeving and packaging machines in a food or beverage environment. Knowledge of HACCP, FDA, EPA, OSHA, USDA, WDA, and customer quality and safety requirements. Prior experience in a GMP-regulated facility, including use of appropriate protective clothing and hygiene practices. Strong communication skills to effectively report machine status and quality issues to supervisors. Ability to work collaboratively with other machine operators and production staff to maintain efficiency. Flexibility to perform additional tasks and support different areas of production as needed. Work Environment This role is based in a production facility operating on two primary shifts: a first shift from 4:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and a second shift from 2:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m., Monday through Thursday. You will work on and around sleeving, bottling, filling, and packaging machinery in a GMP-regulated environment that follows strict food safety and regulatory standards. The position requires standing for extended periods, working in a fast-paced production setting, and lifting up to 50 lbs. GMP-compliant attire is required, which includes hair nets, beard nets (as applicable), smocks, and steel-toe footwear. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Waukesha, WI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $22.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
