Job Overview:
The Machine Operator is responsible for operating and maintaining production machinery to meet customer specifications while adhering to company safety and quality standards. Operators may serve in a lead capacity to ensure production lines run efficiently.
Responsibilities:
Maintain area, equipment, and personal sanitation. Set up and operate machinery, including film, zippers, labels, and cheese handling equipment. Inspect machinery, conveyor belts, and emergency stops to ensure proper functionality. Load and handle product safely. Perform basic maintenance tasks, greasing, cleaning, and preventative maintenance. Ensure product quality and adherence to weight specifications using Statistical Process Control (SPC) systems. Disassemble and assemble equipment as needed. Utilize downtime productively. Communicate daily production updates, changes, and safety issues to team members. Operate equipment safely and efficiently in accordance with company policies. Follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and company safety procedures. Other duties as assigned by management.
Required Skills and Experience:
Basic understanding of manufacturing processes and machinery. Ability to make minor decisions based on standard practices. Ability to read, prepare, and understand production reports. Strong communication skills with team members regarding quality and safety. Ability to motivate and work in a team environment. Mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills. Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) and ability to take measurements.
Preferred Skills and Experience:
High school diploma or GED. Troubleshooting and mechanical repair skills. Experience with SAP or MES systems. Basic computer skills.
Working Conditions:
Frequent standing, walking, bending, and reaching. Ability to lift/carry up to 50 lbs. frequently Work in a fast-paced production environment with temperatures averaging 50-60°F. Safety equipment such as hair nets, ear protection, hardhats, and safety glasses may be required.
