Job Summary:
This position is responsible for the fabrication of composite components for marine applications using Low-Resin Transfer Molding (LRTM) techniques. This role involves preparing and assembling molds, injecting resin into molds, and ensuring that marine products such as lids, hatches, or other structural components meet quality, safety, and performance standards.
Duties/Responsibilities:
LRTM Process Operation:
o Set up and operate the LRTM equipment to produce high-quality composite parts for marine products (e.g., lids, hatches, covers). o Mix resins and other materials in precise proportions, ensuring proper curing times and temperature control. o Oversee the injection molding process, ensuring optimal pressure and temperature for high-quality parts.
Mold Preparation and Maintenance:
o Prepare and clean molds, ensuring they are properly set up for the LRTM process. o Apply mold release agents and coatings as necessary to facilitate easy removal of finished parts. o Perform regular maintenance on molds to ensure long-term, efficient production.
Quality Control:
o Inspect finished products for defects, dimensional accuracy, and surface quality. o Use measuring tools such as calipers and gauges to verify component specifications. o Conduct quality checks at various stages of production to ensure compliance with marine standards.
Safety Compliance:
o Adhere to safety standards and operational procedures when handling resins, chemicals, and machinery. o Wear protective equipment and ensure that all safety measures are followed by team members. o Report any safety incidents or hazards immediately to supervisors.
Material Handling and Storage:
o Handle and store raw materials such as resins, glass fibers, and reinforcements, ensuring proper inventory management. o Ensure that materials are stored in a controlled environment to prevent damage or deterioration.
Design and Engineering Teams:
o Work closely with design engineers to ensure that the LRTM process aligns with design specifications. o Assist in the modification of mold designs or tooling when necessary to improve production efficiency or quality.
Troubleshooting and Problem Solving:
o Troubleshoot any issues with the LRTM process, including resin flow, curing time, or mold alignment problems. o Work with the team to resolve any production challenges and maintain high output efficiency.
