- Full-time Job Overview We are seeking a highly skilled Fixed Headstock / Turret & Chucker Lathe Operator to join our manufacturing team.
In this role, you will be responsible for operating specialized lathes that utilize fixed headstocks, turrets, and chucker mechanisms to produce precise metal components. Your expertise will ensure the efficient transformation of raw materials into high-quality parts, supporting our commitment to manufacturing excellence. The ideal candidate will possess strong mechanical knowledge, proficiency in CNC and manual machining techniques, and a keen eye for quality control. Duties Set up and operate fixed headstock, turret, and chucker lathes to produce complex metal parts according to detailed blueprints and specifications. Interpret technical drawings and utilize precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, and dial gauges to ensure dimensional accuracy. Program CNC lathe machines and perform manual adjustments to optimize machining processes for efficiency and quality. Conduct routine inspections of machined components using GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) standards to verify conformance. Maintain proper tooling setup, including tool selection and calibration for various machining operations such as threading, drilling, and facing. Utilize hand tools, welding equipment, and fabrication tools like plasma cutters and press brake machines for part assembly or modifications as needed. Operate cranes and forklifts safely for material handling and machine setup within the manufacturing environment. Perform routine maintenance on machines to ensure optimal operation and troubleshoot mechanical issues promptly. Support quality inspection processes by identifying defects or deviations from specifications during production runs. Collaborate with team members in fabrication, assembly, and process improvements to enhance overall productivity. Requirements Proven experience operating fixed headstock / turret lathes, chucker lathes, or CNC lathe machines within a manufacturing setting. Strong mechanical aptitude with knowledge of machining processes including CNC programming, milling, plasma cutting, welding, and sheet metal fabrication. Familiarity with GD&T principles for precise measurement and quality assurance. Ability to read blueprints accurately and interpret technical drawings effectively. Proficiency with precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, micrometers, and dial indicators. Basic math skills necessary for calculating dimensions, tolerances, and machine settings. Experience with tooling setup, calibration, and maintenance of machining equipment. Knowledge of safety procedures related to crane operation, hand tools usage, welding equipment, and machine operation. Ability to work independently or as part of a team in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Relevant certifications or training in CNC programming or machining are advantageous.
