Position Summary The Slitter Operator operates slitting/converting equipment to slit, rewind, inspect, label, and prepare finished or semi-finished rolls according to customer specifications, job requirements, safety rules, and quality standards. General Purpose of the Job The purpose of the Slitter Operator role is to safely convert rolls to the required size, quality, quantity, labeling, and packaging requirements while minimizing waste and protecting product quality.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Slitting and Rewinding Operation
- Operate slitting and rewinding equipment according to job specifications and procedures.
- Review work orders, roll identification, width requirements, core requirements, labels, customer specifications, and special instructions.
- Set up knives, cores, tension, rewind direction, and machine parameters as required.
- Monitor roll quality, edge quality, defects, splice quality, telescoping, blocking, contamination, and roll appearance.
- Complete finished roll labeling, staging, and documentation. 2. Quality and Food Safety
- Perform required quality checks and report defects, contamination risks, incorrect material, labeling issues, or customer requirement concerns.
- Identify and segregate nonconforming product.
- Support traceability through proper roll identification, labels, counts, and documentation.
- Coordinate with QA when product review or disposition is required. 3. Safety, SQF and GMP
- Follow all company safety rules, PPE requirements, GMP practices, SQF expectations, food safety requirements, and facility procedures.
- Immediately report unsafe conditions, injuries, near misses, quality concerns, contamination risks, equipment issues, or product concerns to leadership.
- Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas in accordance with housekeeping, GMP, and 5S expectations.
- Support food safety culture by protecting product from contamination, damage, mislabeling, foreign material, and improper handling. 4. Productivity and Waste Control
- Minimize slitting waste, roll damage, downtime, and rework.
- Report machine issues, dull knives, material defects, and recurring problems promptly.

- Slitting, rewinding, converting, packaging, printing, or manufacturing experience preferred.
- Experience with flexible films, labels, shrink sleeves, or roll goods desirable. Education
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Technical training in printing technology or manufacturing is a plus. Skills and Abilities
- Flexographic printing, lamination, or manufacturing experience preferred.
- Ability to read work orders, measurements, labels, and job specifications.
- Basic math and measurement skills required.
- Ability to safely operate converting equipment. Language Skills
- Ability to read, write, and communicate clearly in English.
- Bilingual English/Spanish preferred based on workforce communication needs.
Physical Demands Standing, walking, bending, reaching, lifting within safe limits, working with rolls, knives, and moving machinery. PPE required. Work Environment Production and converting environment with slitting equipment, roll goods, forklifts, noise, sharp tooling, and SQF/GMP requirements.
