Job Title:
Slitter Operator - 1st shift - Up to 28/hr Job Description This role operates slitter machines in a steel slitting facility, working closely with a small team to process steel safely and efficiently. The position involves running slitter equipment, using overhead cranes and forklifts to move materials, and serving as the first line of troubleshooting for machinery issues. Responsibilities Operate slitter machines to process steel according to production specifications and quality standards. Work collaboratively with 1-2 other employees on the production line to coordinate material flow and machine operation. Operate 25/35-ton overhead cranes to load and unload trucks and rail cars, and to feed steel into the slitter machines. Use forklifts and other material-handling equipment to move coils and finished product throughout the facility. Perform first-line troubleshooting on slitter machines and related equipment to identify and resolve basic mechanical or operational issues. Monitor machine performance, make necessary adjustments, and report any recurring or complex problems to maintenance or supervision. Follow all safety procedures when operating slitter machines, cranes, forklifts, and other equipment. Support general production tasks as needed, including basic general labor duties related to steel slitting operations. Maintain a clean and organized work area to support safe and efficient operations. Assist in training or supporting team members in proper operation and safe use of slitter machines and material-handling equipment. Essential Skills Previous hands-on experience as a slitter machine operator in a production or steel slitting environment. Proven ability to operate slitter machines independently and safely. Experience operating overhead cranes, including 25/35-ton cranes, for loading trucks, rail cars, and feeding steel. Experience operating forklifts in a production or warehouse setting. Basic mechanical aptitude and ability to troubleshoot slitter machinery as the first line of defense. Ability to perform general production and general labor tasks in a manufacturing environment. Strong attention to safety procedures when operating heavy machinery and handling steel materials. Ability to work effectively as part of a small team and communicate clearly with coworkers. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience in machine operation within a steel, metals, or similar industrial environment. Experience in a utility or lead-style role supporting production operations is beneficial. Comfort working in a fast-paced, production-focused setting with changing priorities. Reliability and consistent attendance to support weekly attendance bonus opportunities. Willingness to learn additional production tasks and support multiple roles as needed. Why Work Here? Work Environment This position is based in a steel slitting operation within a medium-sized facility that supports steel production. Shifts run Monday through Friday, with potential for 8-hour shifts depending on operational needs. Multiple openings are available, including slitter operator and utility-style roles. The facility requires appropriate safety gear, including steel-toe footwear, with potential need for metatarsal protection, and follows standard industrial safety practices for working around heavy equipment and steel materials. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Butler, IN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $41600.00 - $58240.00/yr.
