Job Title:
B-Shift Slitter Operator Job Description The B-Shift Slitter Operator sets up and operates slitting and converting equipment to cut film and related materials to precise specifications. This role reads and interprets bills of materials, configures machine settings for width, length, speed, and tension, and performs basic troubleshooting to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality production. The operator works on B-Shift from 6:00 p.m. to 6:15 a.m., Sunday through Tuesday and every other Saturday, and is responsible for handling finished product and preparing it for shipment. Responsibilities Read and interpret bills of materials to determine required widths, lengths, cores, and other production specifications. Set up slitter and converting machines, including threading film into the machine and setting blades to the proper width. Program machines for correct length, speed, and tension based on product requirements. Set up the leader table with appropriate tapes, leaders, and trailers, and retrieve the proper cores from inventory. Perform machine set-ups and changeovers efficiently to support production schedules. Operate slitter and roll-to-roll equipment to cut and convert film, paper, labels, and related materials. Monitor machine performance and product quality during runs, making adjustments as needed. Perform basic troubleshooting of the equipment, including adjusting speed, winding tension, and brake tension to maintain optimal operation. Recover from film breaks by stopping the machine, cutting broken film, and re-threading the machine safely and correctly. Conduct quality checks using calipers and other measuring tools to verify that material thickness and dimensions meet specifications. Stack finished product in containers in an organized manner and prepare it for transfer to shipping. Maintain a clean and orderly work area to support a safe and efficient production environment. Follow all safety procedures and guidelines while operating machinery and handling materials. Collaborate with team members and supervisors to meet production goals and address any issues that may arise during the shift. Essential Skills Mechanical aptitude with the ability to understand and work with industrial machinery. Experience in machine operation or manufacturing, preferably in a production environment. Ability to perform machine set-ups, changeovers, and basic troubleshooting on slitter or similar equipment. Comfort with using calipers and other basic measuring tools for quality checks. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds on a regular basis. Strong attention to detail when setting machine parameters and inspecting finished product. Capability to work 12-hour B-Shift (6:00 p.m.-6:15 a.m.) on a schedule of Sunday through Tuesday and every other Saturday. Reliability and consistency in following work instructions, safety procedures, and quality standards. Additional Skills & Qualifications Prior experience with slitting, roll-to-roll processing, or converting operations. Background in paper cutting, labeling, or film converting processes. Experience operating slitter machines, roll forming equipment, or other roll-to-roll machinery. Exposure to working with thin films; experience with thinner film materials is a strong plus. Previous work as a slitter operator, machine operator, or in a similar conversion or manufacturing role. Demonstrated mechanical inclination and comfort working with tools and production equipment. Work Environment The role is based in a clean, climate-controlled manufacturing facility designed for comfort and safety. The B-Shift schedule runs from 6:00 p.m. to 6:15 a.m., Sunday through Tuesday, with work every other Saturday. The environment centers on slitting, converting, and roll-to-roll operations, including paper cutting, labeling, and film processing. Employees work with slitter machines and related converting equipment and use tools such as calipers for quality checks. The dress code requires steel-toe boots, blue jeans and/or work pants without holes, and a solid-colored shirt; shorts are also permitted when appropriate. The facility emphasizes orderliness, cleanliness, and a professional production atmosphere. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Hebron, KY. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.75 - $21.75/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
