Job Description

Job Overview The Machinist/Mold Maker is a is a highly skilled technician responsible for setting up and operating a variety of computer-controlled and mechanical machines to produce precision metal parts. This role requires a blend of technical knowledge, manual dexterity, and analytical problem-solving. Operational Duties Utilizes tools such as lathes, milling machines, and grinders to produce tooling and parts that meet exact specifications. Review specifications, blueprints, or CAD/CAM files to determine the sequence of operations. Set up and operate manual and CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machinery. Use precision instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges to ensure parts meet tolerances often as tight as $\pm 0.001$ inches. Select appropriate tools, attachments, and materials (e.g., cast metal, steel, aluminum,) based on the specific requirements of the job. Inspect finished workpieces for defects and ensure they align with engineering blueprints or samples. Perform routine preventative maintenance on machinery and troubleshoot malfunctions to minimize downtime. Adhere to all safety protocols, including the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and maintaining a clean, organized workspace. All other duties assigned. Experience and Education Requirements Proven experience in machining, mold making, or tooling fabrication within a manufacturing environment. Strong knowledge of CNC operation for CNC lathe and CNC milling machines. Ability to use precision measuring instruments including calipers, micrometers, micrometers gauges accurately. Strong understanding of shop math, including geometry and trigonometry for calculating feed rates and spindle speeds. Ability to interpret complex geometric dimensioning and tolerancing. Ability to read and understand mechanical and electrical drawings Strong attention to detail combined with excellent problem-solving skills in a fast-paced setting. High school diploma or equivalent Vocational program completion or apprenticeship is highly preferred Physical Requirements Ability to lift up to 70 lbs. Ability to work in extreme temperatures (hot and cold) Able to sit, stand, walk, reach, squat, kneel, climb
