Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY
Supports Product Manufacturing by constructing and repairing molds and machine parts using experience, skill and good judgment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
Other duties may be assigned and overtime may sometimes be mandatory. Mold Maker I Complete Assignments Efficiently by knowing quoted hours and delivery; going over work plan with lead Mold Maker, Design Engineer and Tool Shop Manager. Develops Mold Function and Structure by studying blue prints of mold, product, and prototypes; applying knowledge of materials under stress, machining and assembly methods, and mathematics. Machine Parts by measuring, marking and scribing stock, setting up and operating lathe, mill, radial drill, CNC EDM, grinders, CNC machining centers, etc. Confirms Dimensions of Mold Components by verifying dimensions, clearances, and alignment of parts and components by using QC lab, micrometers, thickness gauges, gauge blocks, dial indicators, etc. Fits Mold Components to Mating Tools by grinding, filing, etc. radii and/or chamfer on tools Completes Assembly by bolting and doweling parts and components together, installing tools in mold frame, connecting wiring and mechanical actions, hydraulic or air cylinders Confirm performance of Mold by filling out visual checklist of completed projects, inspecting operation of dies; making adjustments; comparing finish product to print specifications. Resolves Assembly Problems by making revisions where needed: Consulting with lead tool & die maker to obtain additional resources. Marks changes on prints and completes CAR form for updating and future reference. Completes preventive maintenance requirements following manufacturer's instructions; trouble shooting malfunctions; filling out a maintenance request form. Maintains Continuity Among Work Team by communicating problems in design, materials and functions; documenting actions, irregularities, and continuing needs; follow SOP's and work instructions Document Actions to initiate a repair, complete required documentation Contributes to Team Effort by working on related request as needed; running more than one machine, filling in for absent employees, helping on projects other than your own. Mold Maker II Builds and directs others in the construction of a complete mold Demonstrates competency in a specialty skill such as welding, Wire EDM, electrode modeling, Hot Runner Maintenance and repair, etc. Mold Maker Apprentice Duties 1-12 with increased supervision and decreased skill and efficiency expectations. Completes required training and logs machining experience within four years of employment

ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Communicating daily with lead mold maker and/or tooling manager on progress you have made since the day before and any problems you may have run into. Maintains Supplies Inventory by checking inventory as needed in you assigned area; documenting supplies that are needed when supply is low in any given area; placing and expediting orders for supplies; verifying receipt of supplies. Maintains a clean and neat working
Environment By:
Cleaning off mills, lathes, drill presses, grinders, etc. during and after use as needed. Sweep chips from aisle ways during and after use as needed. Set up and operation of CNC machines. Helps program and/or revise existing programs of CNC machines for new or revised jobs. Works close with programmers and have a good knowledge of programming. May set up, operate and/or observe molds on injection presses. Participate in meetings and training as requested. Authorities None

Education and Experience Mold Maker Apprentice 90th percentile or better on Mechanical Reasoning Test Commitment to complete 10,000 hour OJT and required skills training Mold Maker I Completed a Journeyman Certification Completed Primary Skills Certification Knowledge of a CAM program and ability to update files. Mold Maker II Journeyman Certification and 10,000 subsequent hours of experience Passed Master Mold Maker Certification. Demonstrated Specialty Skill Language Skills Ability to read and interpret common scientific and technical journals and blueprints. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to present information in one-on-one to employees of the organization. Good communication skills enable the engineer to exchange processing ideas with project managers, cost estimators, design engineers, toolmakers and production personnel. Mathematical Skills Ability to apply concepts such as basic trigonometry, geometry, fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations. Computer & Software Skills Must be able to use personal computer to access and retrieve information Reasoning Ability Above-Average Mechanical Reasoning Ability Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
