Job Description

As a controls technician at Tesla, you will play a pivotal role in driving manufacturing excellence within one of the world's most advanced die casting operations. You will collaborate closely with engineering, maintenance, and process teams to ensure the continuous, reliable operation of large-scale die casting machines, robotic systems, PLC-controlled automation, and integrated industrial control infrastructure, directly impacting uptime, scrap reduction, and process consistency. Program, configure, troubleshoot, and maintain Siemens PLCs using ladder logic and structured text along with Siemens VFDs in industrial control environments Diagnose and resolve electrical system faults using diagnostic tools and procedures including reading and interpreting schematics for systems ranging from 24 VDC to 480 VAC 3-phase Utilize SCADA systems such as Ignition to monitor real-time production metrics, generate reports, assign IP addresses, and integrate new devices into local and plant-wide networks Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on Fanuc industrial robots including programming, recovery, diagnostics, and repair Interpret mechanical assembly drawings and electrical schematics to support installation, troubleshooting, and system upgrades Lead or support root cause analysis of equipment failures to implement long-term solutions and improve system reliability Coordinate with cross-functional teams to minimize downtime and maximize equipment availability and yield Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience as a controls technician, automation engineer, or similar role in a high-volume manufacturing environment Proven proficiency with Siemens PLCs (S7-1200/1500) and Siemens VFDs including programming and diagnostics Demonstrated experience with Fanuc robot systems including teach pendant operation, program editing, and fault resolution Strong understanding of industrial control systems including pneumatics, hydraulics, motor controls, and sensor integration Advanced skills in electrical troubleshooting including use of multimeters, oscilloscopes, and other test equipment for AC/DC systems Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, ladder logic diagrams, and mechanical drawings with precision Experience in industrial vision systems or equivalent experience Essential Physical Demands Ability to perform physically demanding work for extended periods of time, up to 12 hours a day Ability to stand and walk for up to 12 hours a day, including over varied and uneven terrain Frequently and repetitively, lift, push and carry up to 35 lbs., including the ability to carry 20 lbs. up and down stairs Frequently and repetitively, bend, lift and reach to install parts Stoop, lay, bend, reach, squat, kneel, crouch, twist and crawl for extended periods of time, including up to 12 hours a day Climb and maintain balance on ladders, scaffolding or other high structures Ability to find issues in a work process and receive safety signals using sight, touch, and hearing Potential exposure to confined spaces, elevated heat and hazardous materials Wearing Personal Protective Equipment, including but not limited to: safety glasses, safety shoes, hard hat, arm protection, hearing protection, and adhering to prescribed safety rules and guidelines Benefits Along with competitive pay, as a full-time Tesla employee, you are eligible for the following benefits at day 1 of hire: Medical plans > plan options with $0 payroll deduction Family-building, fertility, adoption and surrogacy benefits Dental (including orthodontic coverage) and vision plans, both have options with a $0 paycheck contribution Company Paid (Health Savings Accounts) HSA Contribution when enrolled in the High-Deductible medical plan with HSA Healthcare and Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) 401(k) with employer match, Employee Stock Purchase Plans, and other financial benefits Company paid Basic Life, AD&D Short-term and long-term disability insurance (90 day waiting period) Employee Assistance Program Sick and Vacation time (Flex time for salary positions, Accrued hours for Hourly positions), and Paid Holidays Back-up childcare and parenting support resources Voluntary benefits to include: critical illness, hospital indemnity, accident insurance, theft & legal services, and pet insurance Weight Loss and Tobacco Cessation Programs Tesla Babies program Commuter benefits Employee discounts and perks program
