Scope of Responsibility:
The Mold Repair Technician with a background in Tool & Die Fabrication is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of molds used in production processes. This role supports the maintenance department by ensuring all molds operate at optimal efficiency and are properly maintained, repaired, or refurbished as needed. The Mold Repair Technician will utilize their knowledge of tool and die fabrication to diagnose issues, perform precision repairs, and work closely with the maintenance team to minimize downtimeResponsibilities:
1.Mold Maintenance & Repair:
Inspect, clean, and repair molds to ensure optimal performance and longevity. Perform mold changes, repairs, adjustments, and preventive maintenance. Troubleshoot and diagnose mold defects, damages, or malfunctions using appropriate tools and diagnostic techniques. Repair or replace mold components (e.g., inserts, pins, plates) using tool and die skills, including grinding, polishing, and welding as required. Ensure molds are in proper working condition before they are returned to production. 2.Tool & Die Fabrication:
Utilize tool and die fabrication skills to create or modify mold components, ensuring precision and accuracy. Use equipment such as lathes, mills, grinders, and CNC machines to fabricate and repair mold parts. Work with precision measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers) to ensure high-quality standards. Collaborate with engineering or design teams to make necessary modifications or improvements to molds based on production requirements. 3.Preventive Maintenance:
Develop and execute preventive maintenance programs for molds, tracking wear and tear to avoid unexpected breakdowns. Maintain detailed records of all mold repairs, modifications, and maintenance activities. Schedule regular mold inspections to identify potential problems and address them proactively. 4.Collaboration & Support:
Collaborate with the maintenance team to support production needs, ensuring molds are serviced and ready for use. Work closely with machinists, toolmakers, and engineers to coordinate mold fabrication and repair projects. Provide input on mold design improvements to increase performance and reduce repair frequency. 5.Safety & Compliance:
Follow safety procedures during mold repair, tool and die operations, and handling of machinery. Ensure all equipment and tools are in safe working condition and compliant with company safety regulations. Adhere to all relevant safety, quality, and compliance standards for mold repair and tool & die work.Education/Background/Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent required; technical training or certification in tool and die fabrication or mold repair is highly preferred. Proven experience (typically 3-5 years) as a mold repair technician or in a similar tool and die fabrication role, preferably within a manufacturing or production environment. Strong background in tool and die making or fabricating, with hands-on experience in mold repair. Proficiency in using hand tools, precision measuring instruments, and machinery such as mills, lathes, and grinders. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and mold schematics. Strong troubleshooting skills and attention to detail for diagnosing and repairing mold-related issues. Knowledge of CNC machining and related software is a plus. Ability to lift heavy materials, work in confined spaces, and stand for long periods of time. Fluent in English, both written and verbal.Pay:
