Job Description

Lathe / Mill Operator (Manual or CNC)
Location:
Houston, TX 77032
Shift:
8am-5pm, Overtime as needed
Pay Rate:
$20-$24 DOE Role Objective To set up and operate various machine tools to produce precision components for screw conveyors and bulk handling systems. This role requires a blend of technical CNC programming/editing and the "hands-on" mechanical skill needed for large-scale industrial fabrication.
Key Responsibilities Machine Setup & Operation:
Set up and operate CNC and/or manual Lathes and Milling machines (Commonly Haas , Mazak , or Okuma ).
Precision Machining:
Perform turning, boring, threading, facing, and drilling on various materials including carbon steel, stainless steel, and high-tensile alloys.
Program Management:
Load and edit CNC programs (G-code / M-code). Proficiency in Mazatrol or Fanuc controls is often a specific requirement for Motridal's machinery.
Blueprint Interpretation:
Read and interpret complex engineering drawings and CAD prints to determine dimensions, tolerances, and machining sequences.
Quality Inspection:
Use precision tools (micrometers, calipers, depth gauges, and thread gages) to ensure parts meet strict $\pm$ tolerances before they move to the assembly/welding stage.
Tooling & Maintenance:
Select proper cutting tools and inserts; adjust feeds and speeds to optimize finish and tool life. Perform daily preventative maintenance on machines.
Technical Skills & Qualifications Experience:
2-5+ years of experience in a machine shop environment. Experience with heavy-duty industrial parts (large shafts or pipes) is a major plus.
Software/Controls:
Ability to edit programs at the controller. Familiarity with GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).
Material Knowledge:
Experience machining diverse metals such as A36 Carbon Steel , 304/316 Stainless , and AR400 (Abrasion Resistant) steels.
Equipment:
Experience with overhead cranes and jib cranes is highly preferred, as many components (like 20-foot conveyor shafts) are too heavy for manual lifting.
Math Skills:
Strong shop math skills, including trigonometry and the ability to convert between Metric and Imperial systems.
Physical Requirements & Environment Physical Stamina:
Ability to stand for 8-10 hours and lift up to 50 lbs .
Safety First:
Must adhere to strict PPE requirements (steel-toed boots, safety glasses, hearing protection).
Work Environment:
Non-climate-controlled manufacturing plant (standard for Houston-area heavy fabrication).
Compensation / Pay
Rate (Up to): $20.00 - $24.00
