JOB SUMMARY
TekniPlex is hiring an Operations Extrusion Specialist for our City of Industry, CA facility. The Extrusion Specialist is responsible for executing assigned technology projects. The specialist will handle projects, with a hands-on approach, related to the introduction and execution of new product programs for prototypes and validations, including processes, equipment, and tooling. The specialist will also provide, when needed, technical assistance to support manufacturing operations projects such as continuous improvement, process optimization, and process related safety modifications. This role will be part of the team that drives projects within the plant and facilitate cross department communication and task execution. This will require the individual be able to manage projects without direct reports while ensuring compliance of company policies, procedures and objectives regarding processes, initiatives and projects. The salary range for this role is $100,000 to $120,000 per year for this role.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Methods and practices in line with the manufacturing strategy. Work with the NPI/Tech Ops Extrusion Specialist to develop extrusion expertise. Work with the quality team as needed during investigations that pertain to extrusion issues. Potential travel to different sites to aid in more difficult extrusions. Train operations extrusion operators to run the lines independently. Maintain thorough knowledge of all processes and equipment. Assist in the development of technical specifications for future projects and technologies. Responsible for setting up and running extrusion Level 0 prototypes/samples and single lot charge runs associated with Technical Operations projects. Perform duties required to support the creation of prototype products, such as physical property testing, packaging, and any secondary operations. Responsible for day-to-day activities and prioritization. Work with the Technical Operations team to ensure lead times and capabilities are accurate to the organization's competency. Provide technical input to the sales team and customers during project initiation phase for scope and schedule. Be the plant liaison for trials and participate in all associated meetings and activities to ensure success. Support the transfer of completed Technical Operations projects into Operations, including providing process history documentation and supporting oversight during manufacturing transition phase. Work on the line with operations during handoff from PQ to first production run. Ensure there is a seamless transition from PQ to first production run. Provide extrusion expertise to the extrusion operators where needed within the plant. Provide extrusion expertise and guidance to the Operations team on continuous improvement and process optimization projects by reviewing project plans, process data, and root cause analysis. Support plant operations and capital projects when Technical Operations input is required. Recommend methods, technologies, and trials for process capability improvement based on manufacturing needs and capabilities. Assist with root cause investigation and corrective action trials, with a six-sigma approach, of escalated rejects and customer complaints that require Technical Operations input. Responsible for extrusion related MOS projects. Manage local plant tooling. Aid in pro-track plant projects.
Knowledge Management:
Input project updates onto the Knowledge. All technical operations will be measured against annual, mid-term, and long-term targets reflecting strategic targets in the following areas: Product execution; Work within the operations team to meet plant KPI's Deliver on assigned MOS and Pro-Track projects Ensure PQ hand offs are seamless to operations Ensure all processes are in accordance with validated state and the cost model assumptions. QUALIFICATIONS A
minimum of 10 years of experience with hands-on extrusion is required Background must include experience in more than one of the following areas: medical device manufacturing, extrusion, injection molding, process improvement, industrial manufacturing A solid knowledge of plastics is preferred Ability to speak English & Spanish is a plus Ability to come up to speed efficiently. Knowledge of production line shift work is required. Effective communication, listening, and diagnostic skills are required to communicate with internal team members from various departments. Ability to work well independently and as a member of a team is essential. Individual must be hands-on and willing to work in the production environment including off shifts when positions require. The ability to travel as necessary. LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and legibly complete time cards and work orders. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures and read blueprints and technical drawings, such as machine, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and electrical. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small groups situations to other employees of the organization. Ability to effective present information and respond to questions form groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra, geometry, fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variable in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form.
