Job Description
Job Title:
Material Flow Engineer Job Description The Material Flow Engineer optimizes warehousing and material flow operations across a high-rate, complex manufacturing and supply chain environment. This role drives best-in-class quality, reliability, speed, and asset utilization while supporting critical customer deployments and internal development timelines. You will collaborate closely with Supply Chain, Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, and Business Operations to diagnose operational issues, design data-driven solutions, and scale them from development through full-rate production. Responsibilities Work across multiple programs from early development through full-rate production to scale best-in-class material flow and warehousing solutions that align with the maturity of the manufacturing process. Proactively identify imbalances and bottlenecks caused by inventory processes, line layouts, parts shortages, staffing constraints, and other production limitations, and drive cross-functional resolution with Supply Chain, Manufacturing Engineering, and Quality teams. Own and continuously improve metrics, KPIs, and reporting that monitor production line health and efficiency, including cycle time, throughput rate, capacity, utilization, process non-conformities, and inventory accuracy. Conduct time studies of current and emerging warehouse and operations processes to ensure efficiency, reduce waste, and support high-rate production. Develop and refine processes to optimize work plans for highly variable demand across multiple sites and facilities. Translate analytical tools, dashboards, and reports into clear, actionable tasks that improve the health and performance of warehouse operations across multiple processes and locations. Produce and maintain tools that increase the accuracy of work demand forecasting for new facilities and maturing processes, using a data-driven approach and techniques such as value stream mapping, process mapping, and line balancing. Plan and optimize material flow solutions with a strong focus on safety protocols and regulatory compliance. Contribute to department and factory design and setup, including flow lines, continuous flow, one-piece flow, workstation design, and overall value stream optimization. Own entire value chains from start to finish by measuring each process step, identifying constraints, and creating actionable improvements that deliver significant and sustainable business impact. Present project results and recommendations to cross-functional teams, clearly connecting data insights to proposed next steps and implementation plans. Use Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) and Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) to support production and inventory operations, ensuring accurate tracking and control of materials. Leverage Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems such as NetSuite, Oracle, SAP, Odoo, or similar platforms for inventory control, planning, and reporting. Implement Lean Manufacturing principles and continuous improvement initiatives that increase productivity, reduce waste, and enhance process reliability. Deliver successful projects by being hands-on with processes, performing operational analysis, and implementing practical solutions such as poka-yoke, process automation, and low-CAPEX improvements. Interact with SQL databases to store information and build custom queries for tracking production and inventory-related metrics and performance indicators. Identify and address capacity constraints across warehouse and production operations, ensuring that material flow supports demand and schedule requirements. Support automation initiatives by analyzing manual processes and determining where they can be automated or optimized to improve throughput and accuracy. Maintain awareness of electrostatic discharge (ESD) considerations and best practices when working with sensitive electronic components and assemblies. Demonstrate holistic ownership of operational challenges by diagnosing problems, implementing solutions, and following through to verify sustained performance improvements. Collaborate closely with cross-functional partners in a fast-paced, resource-limited environment, providing support wherever needed to ensure products are built and shipped under stringent quality standards. Essential Skills Bachelor's degree in engineering. 5+ years of experience in a high-rate supply chain or manufacturing environment where complex mechanical and/or electrical assemblies are built with heavy data utilization. Ability to read and interpret technical documentation such as engineering drawings and CAD data. Understanding of a variety of hardware manufacturing processes for electronics, including PCBAs and sensor hardware. Understanding of manufacturing processes for structures, mechanical components, and electromechanical systems. Experience in materials engineering, inventory management, and supply chain operations. Strong Lean Manufacturing experience with proven problem-solving capabilities and a self-starter mindset. Ability to diagnose operational problems, design practical solutions, and independently drive implementation to completion. Experience identifying and resolving capacity constraints in manufacturing or warehouse environments. Ability to relocate, if not already local, to work onsite in Atlanta, GA. Status as a U.S. Person due to required access to U.S. export-controlled information or facilities. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience planning and optimizing material flow solutions with a strong understanding of safety protocols and regulatory compliance. Experience in department or factory design and setup, including value stream mapping, flow lines, continuous flow, one-piece flow, and workstation design. Ability to fully own a value chain from end to end, measuring each step and translating findings into actionable improvements that deliver sustainable business results. Demonstrated ability to present project results to cross-functional teams and clearly relate data insights to recommended next steps. Prior experience with a Manufacturing Execution System (MES) for production operations or a Warehouse Management System (WMS). Prior knowledge of NetSuite, Oracle, Oracle Fusion, SAP, Odoo, or similar Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems. Experience implementing Lean Manufacturing principles that drive measurable productivity improvements. Hands-on experience delivering successful projects through operational analysis, process optimization, and implementation of poka-yoke and other low-CAPEX solutions. Experience interacting with SQL databases, including storing information and building custom queries for production and inventory-related metrics. Experience in high-volume manufacturing environments such as aerospace, automotive, medical devices, or other industries with a mix of part sizes and complexities. Experience with process automation and optimization, including transforming manual processes into more automated, efficient workflows. Knowledge of industrial engineering concepts, inventory control practices, and warehouse management best practices. Familiarity with ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) requirements and controls in environments handling electronic components. Strong project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple initiatives in a fast-paced environment. Comfort working with data and analytics to drive decisions, including KPI definition, monitoring, and continuous improvement. Work Environment This role is fully onsite at a manufacturing and warehouse facility in Atlanta, GA, five days per week, Monday through Friday during standard daytime hours. You will work in a fast-paced, high-rate production and supply chain environment that handles complex mechanical and electrical assemblies, including PCBAs, sensor hardware, structures, and electromechanical systems. The facility leverages modern digital tools such as MES, WMS, and ERP platforms (including systems like NetSuite, Oracle, SAP, or similar) as well as SQL-based data infrastructure to monitor production and inventory performance. The environment emphasizes Lean Manufacturing, continuous improvement, safety, and adherence to regulatory and ESD protocols. Occasional travel of approximately 15% or less may be required to support multiple sites, collaborate with cross-functional teams, or assist with new facility setups and process ramp-up Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Atlanta, GA.
