Job Description

At the City of Manhattan , we put the well-being of people at the heart of everything we do. This is more than a utilities leadership role. It is an opportunity to directly impact public health, environmental sustainability, and the long-term vitality of a growing, engaged community. The Assistant Director of Public Utilities plays a critical leadership role in ensuring the reliable, efficient, and forward-thinking delivery of water and wastewater services for a vibrant community of more than 54,000 residents. This position serves as the operational and strategic partner to the Director, overseeing complex utility systems, managing multimillion-dollar enterprise funds, and leading a diverse, mission-driven workforce. The role is both highly technical and highly visible, requiring strong leadership, financial acumen, and the ability to communicate effectively with an informed and engaged public. With approximately $30 million in annual utility revenues and significant capital investments ahead, this is a rare opportunity to help shape the future of essential infrastructure in a stable, well managed organization. This is a career-defining role for a leader who wants to operate at the intersection of infrastructure, finance, innovation, and community impact.
