What You Will DoAs a Utilities Mechanic I, you will assist in the operation and maintenance of water treatment systems within the County. Working under the direction of a supervisor, you will perform equipment repairs, maintenance, and replacement. The work you do will support safe and efficient operations in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations.

Essential DutiesMaintain, troubleshoot, and repair equipment and components associated with water treatment systems and facilities. Install new and replacement equipment and components.

Coordinate major equipment repair with vendors and contractors. Assist with work as required.

Assist in the operation of water treatment systems, facilities, and specialized equipment as required.

Maintain vehicles, equipment, and tools.

Collect samples, compile data, and complete routine paperwork, including logs and reports.

Maintain parts and hardware inventory.

Follow all established safety rules and regulations. Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe work environment.

Ensure all work is complete and timely to support department goals. Evaluate feedback and procedures to improve efficiency.

Invite collaboration and seek learning opportunities. Proactively assist peers to create a supportive work environment.

Required Licenses and CertificationsValid driver's licenseMaryland Temporary Operator Class 4 Water Treatment (or must obtain within 30 days of employment)Maryland Operator Class 4 Water Treatment Plant license (or must obtain within 3 years of employment)Department of Transportation (DOT) physical cardAdditional InformationRequires criminal background check as condition of employment.

Will be required to work outside of standard hours.

May be identified as Essential Personnel during emergency situations.

Working ConditionsFrequent exposure to potentially adverse environmental conditions, including, but not limited to, chemicals, noise, and airborne particles.

Frequent physical activity: lifting and carrying over 50lbs, climbing ladders and steps, standing/walking, pushing/pulling, bending, reaching, squatting, stooping, kneeling, and related activities.

Must wear appropriate PPE as required.
