The hourly rate for this position is$40.39.
Job Summary Location:
Lansing, MIThis position is responsible for the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of the energy related assets located within a central utility complex at the GM Lansing or GM Delta Complex. Assets include Air handling Units, Chilled Water, Cooling Tower, Thermal Storage, Compressed Air, Hot Water and Wastewater Treatment.

Work is performed under the direction of the Plant Management or Lead O&M Technician. Key Accountabilities
  • Perform station shift operation and maintenance, including startup and shutdown of main plant components and auxiliaries as directed
  • Perform operations in accordance with established SOPs and job safety standards
  • Respond to abnormalities and take corrective actions consistent with established operating procedures and good engineering practice
  • Conduct routine tours of the plant to inspect equipment; provide feedback to management and other employees
  • Comply with all site safety requirements and procedures. Identify safety hazards and take corrective actions as necessary
  • Maintain accuracy of shift operating logs in Plantlog, records, timesheets, work orders and other administrative documents related to the plant operations
  • Perform routine chemistry testing and make necessary adjustments to optimize efficiency
  • Check daily consumption rates of chemicals, water, and other consumables; monitors inventories and initiates action to replenish when appropriate
  • Perform plant switching and tagging of equipment in accordance with approved procedures and prudent operations and maintenance practices
  • Perform mechanical inspections, troubleshooting, and maintenance tasks
  • Investigate plant issues, incidents, accidents, and unusual events, and provide analyses, recommendations, reports, and appropriate follow-up plans
  • Active participant of the site safety team/committee
  • Develop, assist, and revise operations and maintenance related procedures
  • Perform and maintain housekeeping standards and duties
  • Perform routine preventive and predictive maintenance on all systems and equipment; support corrective maintenance efforts on selected equipment when properly trained
  • Communicate with other company personnel on site and at other locations
  • Represent the company in dealing with the customers, vendors, contractors, regulators, and other non-company personnel under the direction of Management
  • Work scheduled and unscheduled hours and respond to off-hour call-ins
  • Display routine proficiency improvements progressing toward qualifying to a O&M Technician Level 4 Qualifications High school diploma or equivalentMust possess a valid state driver's license and have a good driving recordBasic computer skills and proficiency with MS Office applicationsAbility to read and write effectively in English and to do basic mathematicsKnowledge of and experience in Standard Operating Procedures, Pre-Job Briefs, Job Hazard Analysis, Risk Assessments and LOTOAbility to complete site specific written qualification programKnowledge of power plant safety, policies, and procedures, especially in area such as chemical handling, high energy systems, confined spaces, incipient fire suppression, first aid, rotating machinery, and heavy equipmentKnowledge of and experience in one or more of the following: operation and maintenance of Chilled Water Systems, Boilers, Compressed Air, Water Treatment, Cooling Towers, HVAC -AHUs.
Electrical and MechanicalAbility to operate valves, switches, controls, keyboards, and other devices associated with power plantsThree (3) years of power plant experience in operations and maintenance preferredExperience using computerized work order systems, experience with plant controls systems preferredAbility to complete site specific written qualification programKnowledge of plant mechanical equipment, including motors, pumps, fluid systems, chemical handling, water treatment systems, control systems and associated maintenance functions preferredKnowledge of and ability to understand fundamental principles related to physics, mathematics, AC & DC electrical theory, heat transfer and fluid flow, thermal dynamics, and chemistry preferredKnowledge of and experience in the following: pipefitting, rigging, rotating machine repair, machine alignment, basic vibration analysis, and using electrical test equipment preferred Additional Qualifications The physical demands characterized here epitomize those that must be met by an employee to properly perform the integral functions of this job.
