SPECIFIC CERTIFICATION
Valid New Mexico Class D Commercial License. Water operator Class III certification required.
EDUCATION
High School Graduate. Three years of experience in the operation and maintenance of water treatment and distribution systems, including the operation of construction and maintenance equipment. Work experience in Ground water and surface water filtration. Maintains current level water certification.
KNOWLEDGE OF
Principals of lead supervision and training. Principals and practices of water distribution and treatment. Principals and practice of cross connection control and backflow protection. Operational characteristics of maintenance and construction equipment and tools used in work activities. Practices and procedures of traffic control. Basic mathematical principals. Basic principles and practices of record keeping. Principles and practices of project design and cost estimating. Occupational hazards and standard safety procedures.
ABILITIES AND SKILLS
Considerable knowledge of water supply distribution quality operations. Knowledge of plumbing and pipefitting and new construction. Knowledge of general maintenance and repair of the distribution system. Ability to operate a variety of construction equipment including backhoes, front-end loaders, vacuum excavator and tapping machines. Perform heavy manual labor. Ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions. Ability to supervise, assign work to and train subordinates. Ability to establish working relationships with employees and public. Reporting Requirements. Develops and maintains fire hydrant, valve, air relief valves, pressure reducing valves.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Operator III position participates in work projects initiated to repair and maintain water lines; water meters, storage tanks, wells, Pump Station, Surface Water Treatment Plant and other facilities to insure proper and adequate water supply and distribution for the Association. Maintains the distribution system in safe operating condition. Operates equipment in digging and filling in trenches for new water lines, digging around water mains and valves for repair work. Operates various construction and maintenance equipment including backhoe, dump trucks, front-end loaders, vacuum excavator, tapping machines, etc. Performs a variety of semi-skilled pipe fitting, plumbing and general maintenance work in laying new water lines, making water connections, connecting and repairing water meters. Checks and services assigned equipment as directed. Reports mechanical problems for shop repair. Maintains orderly, organized and clean facilities. Participates in Standby Duties. Must understand office computer system and be able to assist in office when not busy in shop. Operates and maintains Ground water wells and surface water treatment plant and equipment. Keeps online instrumentation in operating order. Calibrates, maintains and logs online instrumentation. Downloads online instrumentation data. Enters Ntu, chlorine, pH, Temperature, flow readings for Regulatory Monthly, Quarterly, annual reports. CUTS weeds, general housekeeping, makes dump runs. Reads customer meter. Performs other duties as assigned. Carries work cell phone at all times. Collects water samples as required by regulations. Reports all system, operational changes and daily updates directly to Operations Manager. Confirms and gets approval of all purchasing to Operations Manager.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Inside and outside work in all kinds of weather conditions with appropriate safety equipment. Participates on rotating on-call duties Assist with on call duties when needed. It may be necessary to work any number of hours a day or night if required in cases of emergency.
UNIFORMS
Uniforms and work boots are provided and will be worn. Steel-toed safety shoes and uniforms will be worn while on duty. Salary Negotiable
