THE POSITION
The Corrections Utility Plant Operator position with the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Dallas offers a chance to support a vital operation that keeps the facility running smoothly. DESCRIPTION OF WORK
This position focuses on maintaining and supporting the safe and efficient operation of the boiler plant while guiding an inmate work crew. You help ensure that essential systems function properly through skilled maintenance, testing, and oversight. As a Corrections Utility Plant Operator, you will perform the following duties:
Boiler Operation:
Maintain efficient operation of high-pressure steam boilers under normal and emergency conditions
Equipment Maintenance:
Operate and care for pumps, fans, control systems, and related auxiliary equipment
Water Testing:
Test boiler water chemistry and track chemical levels and supply inventory
Plant Housekeeping:
Perform cleaning tasks and complete daily inventories for assigned areas
Inmate Supervision:
Oversee inmate workers, monitor movement, and maintain safety and tool control
Daily Communication:
Report concerns to supervisors and complete required paperwork and documentation Interested in learning more? Additional details regarding this position can be found in the position description.
Work Schedule and Additional Information:
Full-time employment, 40 hours per week Work hours are 2:00 PM to 10:00 PM, with rotating days off. This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
Telework:
You will not have the option to telework in this position.
Salary:
Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $47,925.00 (before taxes). However, a higher salary may be established in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement. You will receive further communication regarding this position via email. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
Three years of experience in the operation, maintenance, and repair of a steam or hot water generating plant, or a steam and electric generating plant; or An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Additional Requirements:
Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required. You must be able to perform essential job functions.
