The Utility Operator is required to hold a Water Distribution I, Water Treatment I, and Class B CDL licenses. The Utility Operator must possess good problem solving, interpersonal and verbal/written communications skills. Responsibilities include performing all daily activities associated with the operation and maintenance of a public water system, including the following: Perform installation of new and repair of existing water mains and appurtenances. Repair and maintain system pumping and storage components. Repair and maintain electrical and mechanical controls and equipment. Respond to emergencies. Provide quality customer service. Understand and perform required system sampling/testing. Perform meter reading and meter replacement/repairs. Working knowledge of system valves/hydrants. Facility landscaping and maintenance. Security. Leak Detection. Survey of system assets to update GIS System. Utilizes IT equipment such as GPS, tablets, or laptops to perform duties as assigned. Perform physical and virtual inventory of equipment and materials. Initiate and complete work orders. Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
The Utility Person is required to hold a Water Distribution I, Water Treatment I, and Class B CDL licenses. High school diploma or GED. Valid State Driver's License. Ability to pass BCI Check Ability to pass drug testing. Water Distribution I License or ability to obtain within 1 year. Water Treatment I License or ability to obtain within 1 year. Class B CDL License or ability to obtain within 1 year. Ability to pass a respirator fit test
Competencies:
Ability to work under pressure. Problem-solving skills. Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, lift up to 100 pounds, climb ladders, and work at heights over 100 feet off the ground. Ability to work in confined spaces. Ability to maintain and operate hand, pneumatic, electric and gas tools. Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics. Ability to work in adverse weather conditions in outdoor environments. Ability to work with hazardous materials such as Asbestos and Lead.
Reports to:
Directly reports to the Foreman and receives work assignments from office staff as necessary.
Schedule:
Work Hours:
Monday through Friday 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM. Must be available for required overtime or emergency callback during off-hours and weekends due to emergencies or planned work. Must be available for rotating on-call program, which requires reporting to emergencies off-hours and weekends within 1 hour.
