Utility Operator I

GENERAL SUMMARY

Responsible for a wide variety of skilled and semi-skilled labor in the Utilities Department of Public Works. Reports to the Utility Operations Manager and Public Works Director.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Adhere to safety protocols and guidance set forth by Utility Operations Manager. Comply with the City's Personnel Policy and Procedure Manual. Obtain daily flow meter readings at wastewater facilities; check oil levels and general operating conditions of equipment. Maintain logs and records of equipment and systems. Repair excavated sewer lines using a wide array of hand tools. Restore lawns with landscaping equipment. Maintain, repair, and troubleshoot wastewater collection systems. Perform required maintenance on wastewater pumps. Appropriately and routinely utilitze auxiliary equipment. Operate wastewater jet cleaner and perform routine cleaning of sewer lines. Enter manholes for inspection and cleaning. Perform Field Investigations. Participate in Utility Department on-call rotation and backup rotation. Operate assigned equipment. Perform other duties as assigned.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES

Possess of a valid Tennessee driver's license in good standing. CDL license or ability to obtain a CDL license to operate trucks and/or equipment . Wastewater collection testing for state certification within two years of acceptance of position.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS / WORK ENVIRONMENT

Walking, standing, or sitting for extended periods of time. Working in confined spaces. Frequent bending, squatting, twisting, crawling, kneeling, and climbing. Performing manual tasks for extended periods in unfavorable weather conditions. Transporting solid waste. Pushing, pulling, or lifting equipment, materials, and supplies of objects occasionally weighing up to 100 lbs. Exposure to raw sewage, electrical hazards, temperature extremes, high workplaces, varying noise levels, toxic materials, and air contaminants.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS
