The Special Collections Technician will be responsible for handling and scanning paper and film based images, populating a metadata schema for the digitized images, and uploading those images to the client's digital asset management (DAM) system. The Special Collections Technician will also organize and upload images that were previously digitized (or digital-born) from various media, such as CD, DVD, hard drive, and floppy disk. Clear communication with the supervisor, co-workers, and client will be key to the success of the project. Responsibilities Using the client's online inventory system to locate assets Handling a variety of delicate, irreplaceable archival assets Operating industry standard image scanners Using professional image software to optimize scanned images Populating metadata schemas to the client's specifications Uploading images to the client's DAM system Participating in bi-weekly status meetings with client Skills and Experience Experience handling delicate archival image formats (film negatives, transparencies, vellum) and other forms of artwork (i.e., charcoal, pastel, paint, animation cels, blueprints, white models) Proficient with image manipulation software (Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom) Comfortable in mixed operating systems environment (Mac, PC) Comfortable with spreadsheets (Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets, SmartSheet) Comfortable running limited command line operations Comfortable with DSLR and mirrorless cameras Comfortable using a flatbed scanner Comfortable with modern video recording and basic editing techniques Familiarity with forensic data preservation (i.e., using a Tableau writer blocker) Familiarity with LTO reading and writing Familiarity with photographic process a plus Familiarity with Airtable a plus Requirements Strong interpersonal and communication skills Must be self motivated Must be highly focused and detail oriented Ability to manage multiple high priority tasks Ability to steadfastly follow instructions Strong problem-solving skills Reliable transportation to Burbank, CA Must be punctual, polite, and team minded Must be willing to occasionally work overtime if necessary to meet deadlines
