Overview:
The Prepress Operator is crucial to the daily operations of OMNI Systems, ensuring the preparation of dies, inks, and plates for production orders. This role focuses on facilitating a seamless production schedule through meticulous prepping and coordination.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Pull plates, materials, dyes, and inks from inventory; mount plates specific to each press. Prepare and set up ink, chemicals, tooling equipment, and job jackets per customer specifications. Stage jobs on press carts and move to designated areas for operators. Manage incoming and outgoing tooling; update status in ERP system (Radius knowledge preferred). Inventory and store print plates, mag-plates, and inks; process engineering change requests for retiring job jackets, plates, and tooling. Monitor and adjust ink colors for consistency prior to press run; verify accuracy of information across specification sheets, requisitions, color standards, proofs, and related documents. Accurately document material usage and time; report inventory deficiencies promptly. Operate a forklift (training/certification provided). Assist with cleaning of workstation, press components (rubber plates, cylinders, dye fonts), and removal of plates from press. Follow all department work instructions and ensure compliance with company safety rules and policies. Perform other duties as assigned.

Experience:
The minimum education required for this position is a high school diploma or general education degree (GED). Past experience with flexographic presses or related equipment (tooling, print plates and inks) preferred.
Key Competencies Communication Skills:
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, safety guidelines, documentation, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to communicate clearly with team members and leadership when issues arise.
Mathematical Skills:
  • Should be able to perform basic math including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
Computer Skills:
  • Basic computer skills are a must.
  • Basic proficiency in operating systems such as Radius or similar platforms preferred.
Additional Preferred Skills and Qualifications:
Strong attention to detail. This position requires an ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to adapt to fast-paced and high-pressure environments. Must be self-motivated and able to build relationships across the other departments. Must be able to maintain good attendance.
Physical Demands:
  • The incumbent in this position is regularly required to stand, walk, carry, hear, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, use manual dexterity - hand / finger coordination, grasp, reach, and lift/move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift/move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift/move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required: close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Prepress Operators are regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and frequently encounter fumes or airborne particles. While the manufacturing area is climate controlled, employees may experience relatively warm or cold temperatures throughout the year. Additionally, the noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
