Job Description

Cenveo is a leading North American manufacturer of envelopes with more than 100 years of industry experience and approximately 30 billion envelopes produced annually. We are committed to safety, quality, and operational excellence. We are hiring an experienced Pre Press Operator for our Jersey City, NJ manufacturing facility. Job Summary The Pre‑Press Operator / Graphic Designer / Plate Maker prepares customer artwork and production files for envelope printing. This role includes artwork setup, file preparation, proofing, and daily plate production to support the printing department. The position ensures accurate, high‑quality output and smooth workflow within the envelope manufacturing environment. Key Responsibilities (Essential Functions) These are functions a qualified incumbent or applicant must be able to perform with or without reasonable accommodation. Pre‑Press & Graphic Design Prepare and modify customer artwork for print. Create print‑ready files using Adobe Creative Suite. Produce digital and hard‑copy proofs. Perform pre‑flight checks and troubleshoot file issues. Maintain organized digital files and archives. Daily Plate Making (1
  • 2 hours per day) Produce printing plates for flexographic or offset presses.
Operate plate‑making equipment and related software. Inspect plates for accuracy and quality. Label, store, and maintain plate inventory. Production Support Communicate job specs to press operators. Coordinate with scheduling and manufacturing to meet deadlines. Support efficient production flow. Quality Control Ensure artwork, proofs, and plates meet company standards. Verify color accuracy and print specifications. Conduct final checks before jobs move to production. Other Ensure compliance with environmental standards for inks and waste. Follow all company policies, procedures, and safety requirements. Collaborate effectively in a team environment. Work overtime as needed. Perform other duties as assigned. Pay & Work Schedule Hourly Pay Range :
$24
  • 27, depending on experience.

  • 6pm / Monday
  • Friday; Saturdays as business dictate. Flexibility may be required based on the needs of the operation. Job Requirements High school diploma required; vocational/technical training preferred 7
  • 10 years relevant experience preferred MAC OS experience required Digital printing experience preferred; plate‑making experience a plus Able to read/interpret specs, layouts, and production documents Strong attention to detail, including assessing plate quality Basic math skills (fractions, measurements, metric conversions) Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite; knowledge of pre‑press workflows Strong computer and file‑management skills Able to follow written instructions and SOPs Strong organization, time‑management, communication, and teamwork Effective problem‑solving and commitment to quality, safety, and continuous improvement Physical Requirements & Work Environment Combination of office, pre‑press, and production floor environments.
Frequent exposure to fumes, airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and vibration Must wear required PPE, including hearing protection and safety shoes. Work environment may involve high noise levels; hearing protection is required. Regular physical activity including standing, walking, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling. Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 30 pounds with or without assistance.
