Join us and become part of a company where your work helps create books enjoyed by readers everywhere. We're looking for an Offset Platemaker to join our Press team! In this role, you'll assist in preparing and imaging film for web press plates while receiving hands-on training in prepress workflows, equipment operation, quality control, and safety procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
Learn and assist with prepress preparation tasks, including retrieving and organizing job folders, impositions, and proof books Assist experienced Platemakers with setting up and operating imaging equipment and film processors Learn daily machine maintenance procedures, cleaning requirements, and film inspection processes Assist in identifying quality issues such as missing images, defects, alignment problems, and other inconsistencies Participate in hands-on training related to prepress workflows, equipment operation, and safety procedures Assist with loading film into imaging equipment and support imaging operations Organize, label, and properly store completed film in designated locations Support quality-control checks by comparing film output against digital proof books Maintain cleanliness and organization of work areas, light tables, and film storage locations Assist with documentation, recordkeeping, and production tracking activities Follow all departmental and plant safety procedures, including proper use of PPE and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures Report safety concerns, equipment issues, and quality problems promptly Support team members in meeting production schedules and quality standards Perform additional duties as assigned
Preferred Requirements:
High school diploma or GED preferred Basic computer skills and willingness to learn prepress software and workflows Mechanical aptitude and ability to learn machine operation and maintenance procedures Strong attention to detail and ability to identify errors or defects Understanding of basic measurements and quality standards Dependable, safety-conscious, and eager to learn new skills Strong communication and teamwork skills Positive attitude and commitment to quality, productivity, and meeting deadlines
