Job Description
1.0 Purpose The purpose of this function description is to describe the responsibilities and authorities including the required competencies and education of the Assistant Press Operator. 2.0 Responsibilities and Authorities Reports to the Pressroom Supervisor. Removes old plates and mounts new plates with proper packing. Assists in putting proper ink in fountain. Assists in the setting of ink fountains and inking of rollers. Assists in positioning of image in register and in proper location on sheet. Sets up delivery to ensure adequate jogging of press sheets. Assists in maintenance of proper ink levels. Ensure press sheets are in register during press run and are free from visible defects. Ensures press sheets match to die vinyls, are checked for straightness, that UPC codes are correct and the copy matches. Assists in proper washing of any or all parts of press to maintain quality. Maintains supply of powder in anti-offset sprayer. Maintains supply of fountain solution and alcohol in circulators. Performs press wash-up as directed by the Press Operator. Identifies and prepares all unused material in proper condition to be returned to storage. Assists in performing preventive maintenance on the press, proper house cleaning and safety practices. Assists in all press repairs as directed by the Press Operator. Assumes Press Operator position when necessary. Responsible for issues involving safety, housekeeping, and quality in his/her area of responsibility. Performs other duties as requested. 3.0 Required Competencies and Education 1. Requires a high school diploma; or 4 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. 2. Be able to assist in make-readies and operation of printing equipment upon completion of orientation and/or training. 3. Display a progressive hands-on proficiency in his/her designated machinery and related operations. 4. Any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education approved by Human Resources. 4.0 Required Physical Competencies 1. Job may require prolonged standing and frequent lifting of materials. Material weight will not normally exceed 40 lbs. 2. Bending and/or stooping may be required on a frequent basis. 3. Correct ergonomic work techniques are constantly encouraged and must be the goal for all employees.
