Job Description

Position Summary:

This role ensures accuracy, quality, and operational efficiency while adhering to safety procedures and production standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Review work orders to determine required coil dimensions, material specifications, and slitting parameters. Select the appropriate coil material from inventory and transport it to the slitting line using forklifts, overhead hoists, and coil handling equipment. Load coils onto the payoff reel utilizing overhead hoists, forklifts, coil tippers, and other approved lifting devices. Set up rotary slitting blades and spacers on machine shafts to achieve specified strip widths. Thread material through feed rollers, guides, and cutting blades, ensuring proper alignment and tracking. Adjust machine settings—including tension, blade timing, and feed rate—using rheostats, controls, and handwheels to meet dimensional and quality specifications. Start and operate the slitting machine, verifying the accuracy of cuts using appropriate measuring tools. Monitor machine operation to identify issues such as jamming, wrinkling, irregular cuts, or material defects; stop the machine and make necessary adjustments to maintain product quality. Manage take-up drums and ensure proper lapping, tensioning, and winding of slit material. Operate counting devices, automatic tables, or lifting platforms to support production output and material handling. Secure completed coils using tape or banding and accurately label finished rolls with required identifying information, including barcodes or markings. Remove finished coils from the machine using overhead hoists and transport them to designated staging areas. Replace worn cutting blades, spacers, and related components using proper hand tools, ensuring safe and efficient maintenance of equipment. Monitor scrap collection tanks and empty them into designated recycling containers using overhead hoists and forklifts as needed. Adhere to safety standards, equipment operation procedures, and quality control guidelines at all times.
