Job Description

Job Purpose:
The Pre-Press Supervisor will be responsible for overseeing and coordinating all pre-press activities across multiple locations in the region, which include corrugated sheet plants and converting box plants. The primary goal of this role is to ensure that all pre-press functions—such as artwork preparation, file processing, and pre-production workflows—are executed efficiently, ensuring quality control and alignment with production goals. The Pre-Press Supervisor will lead and manage a team of pre-press technicians and graphic designers to ensure high-quality standards in the creation of corrugated packaging products, including boxes, displays, and other custom packaging solutions.

Team Supervision & Leadership:
Oversee Pre-Press Teams:
Supervise and manage pre-press teams across multiple plant locations (sheet plants and converting box plants) to ensure smooth and effective operations. •
Staff Development & Training:
Provide ongoing training and professional development to prepress operators, graphic designers, and technicians on industry best practices, software tools, and equipment used in corrugated packaging design and production. •
Performance Management:
Monitor the performance of team members, provide feedback, and conduct regular performance reviews. 2.
Pre-Press Process Management:
Artwork Review & Preflight:
Ensure that all artwork files (digital designs, graphics, logos) are preflighted and meet the technical requirements for printing, including checking for resolution, color profiles, file formats, and font issues. •
File Preparation:
Manage the preparation of artwork and digital files for corrugated packaging products, ensuring that files are correctly formatted and ready for production. •
Standardize Workflows:
Develop and enforce standard operating procedures (SOPs) for prepress workflows to improve consistency and reduce errors across all plants. •
Maintain Version Control:
Ensure that correct and updated versions of artwork are used in production runs to avoid errors or reprints. 3. Coordination with
Production & Design Teams:

Designers and Production Managers:
Act as the key point of contact between design teams, pre-press departments, and production managers to ensure that designs are feasible for manufacturing and that production timelines are met. • Collaborate with
Production Teams:
Ensure designs are optimized for the corrugating, printing, and converting processes, maintaining quality standards while optimizing material usage. •
Troubleshooting:
Identify and resolve issues that arise with artwork, design, or production processes (e.g., color inconsistencies, print defects, or alignment issues). 4.
Quality Control & Process Optimization:
Pre-Press Quality Assurance:
Ensure that all pre-press work meets the quality requirements for the final product, including printing quality, die-cut accuracy, and adherence to customer specifications. •
Implement Continuous Improvement:
Proactively identify areas of improvement in the pre-press workflow and collaborate with other departments to implement improvements, reduce waste, and enhance production efficiency. •
Troubleshoot Technical Problems:
Oversee troubleshooting and resolution of any technical issues with artwork files, printing processes, or equipment malfunctions. 5.
Equipment & Software Management:
Software Expertise:
Ensure that the pre-press team is proficient in software tools like Adobe Illustrator, ArtPro, Flexo, CAD software for corrugated design, and other pre-press tools. •
Hardware Oversight:
Supervise the proper functioning of pre-press equipment (e.g., computers, printers, proofing devices, and plates) across multiple plants. Work with maintenance teams to ensure equipment is maintained and calibrated properly. •
Technology Upgrades:
Stay updated on the latest industry software, technology, and trends in pre-press and packaging design to ensure that the plant uses the most efficient and effective tools. 6.
Production Scheduling & Workflow Management:
Monitor Production Schedules:
Coordinate the pre-press production schedule to ensure that artwork is prepared and approved on time, meeting deadlines for the production floor. •
Prioritize Projects:
Prioritize pre-press work based on customer demands, production schedules, and complexity of the artwork or packaging design. •
Manage Workflow:
Oversee the workflow of pre-press tasks to ensure smooth transitions between design, pre-press, and production teams, minimizing downtime and bottlenecks. 7.
Customer & Vendor Relations:
Customer Interaction:
Occasionally interact with customers to ensure the pre-press designs meet their specifications and provide solutions to any design or artwork-related issues. •
Vendor Liaison:
Manage relationships with external vendors (e.g., graphic design agencies, software vendors) to ensure that all materials and resources needed for pre-press are available and up to standard. 8.
Reporting & Documentation:
Pre-Press Reporting:
Maintain accurate documentation of all pre-press processes, including artwork approvals, changes, and any issues encountered during the preparation stages.• Reporting to
Senior Management:
Provide regular updates to senior management about prepress performance, quality control issues, resource requirements, and team performance across all plants in the region.
Skills and Qualifications:
Required:
Experience:
5+ years of experience in a pre-press or printing role, with at least 2-3 years of supervisory or managerial experience in a corrugated manufacturing or packaging plant. •
Knowledge of Corrugated Packaging:
Familiarity with the corrugated manufacturing process, including the creation of boxes, displays, and packaging. •
Technical Skills:
Expertise in pre-press software (Adobe Creative Suite, ArtPro, CAD for corrugated designs, Flexo technology, etc.), and understanding of print production processes such as flexographic printing, die-cutting, and embossing. •
Leadership Skills:
Strong leadership abilities, with experience managing teams across multiple locations. • Attention to
Detail:
High level of accuracy in managing artwork files, quality control, and ensuring that all pre-press files meet production requirements. •
Problem-Solving:
Strong troubleshooting skills to resolve technical and design issues before they impact production. •
Project Management:
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring deadlines are met and resources are used efficiently. •
Communication Skills:
Strong verbal and written communication skills for interacting with crossfunctional teams and customers.
Preferred:
• Bachelor's Degree in Graphic Arts, Print Technology, Packaging Design, or a related field. • Experience in
Multiple Locations:
Experience managing or supervising pre-press activities across multiple production sites or regions. •
Certifications:
Relevant certifications in pre-press or printing technology (e.g., G7 Certification, Flexographic Printing Certification). •
Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma:
Familiarity with lean principles or process optimization techniques to improve efficiency.
Physical Demands & Work Environment:
Work Environment:
The position is typically based in a corrugated manufacturing plant or converting box plant, and the supervisor may need to commute/travel between multiple locations within the region. •
Physical Requirements:
Some travel between plants may be required, and the role may involve occasional lifting or moving of materials. The work environment can be noisy and involve the use of heavy machinery. •
