Print Production Manager Family-Owned Printing Business -
Stoneham, MA Position Overview:
We are a well-established, family-owned printing business based in Stoneham, MA, looking for a highly motivated and experienced Print Production Manager. This role will require someone who possesses strong management skills, a deep understanding of the printing process, and the ability to work well in a team environment. The ideal candidate must be capable of leading a team, ensuring efficient production, and maintaining high-quality standards while fostering excellent communication between departments.
Key Responsibilities:
Production Management:
Oversee the day-to-day operations of the printing department, ensuring that all jobs are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. Manage production schedules, balancing customer deadlines with available resources, and coordinating job priorities. Ensure that printing equipment and materials are utilized effectively, minimizing downtime and maximizing production efficiency.
Team Leadership and Communication:
Lead, motivate, and support a team of printers, operators, and other production staff. Foster a collaborative and team-oriented work environment, ensuring smooth communication between production, sales, and customer service teams. Conduct regular team meetings to review production schedules, address issues, and provide guidance. Act as a mentor to junior team members, offering training and professional development opportunities.
Quality Control and Troubleshooting:
Ensure the quality of all printed materials meets client specifications and industry standards. Perform regular quality checks during production and address any issues related to defects, color discrepancies, or print quality. Troubleshoot production problems and quickly find solutions to prevent delays or defects in the finished product.
Equipment and Inventory Management:
Supervise the maintenance, operation, and repair of all printing equipment, ensuring they remain in optimal working condition. Monitor inventory levels of printing materials and supplies, ensuring stock is replenished in a timely manner and minimizing production delays due to material shortages. Work closely with vendors to manage supply orders and negotiate pricing.
Safety and Compliance:
Maintain a safe working environment by ensuring compliance with OSHA and company-specific safety standards. Conduct regular safety training and ensure all staff are well-versed in safety procedures for handling equipment, chemicals, and other materials.
Customer Interaction:
Serve as a liaison between the production team and customers, ensuring production schedules align with customer expectations. Address customer concerns or inquiries regarding production timelines, job specifications, or quality issues. Collaborate with the sales and customer service teams to ensure clear communication with clients.
Reporting and Documentation:
Maintain detailed production reports, including schedules, completed jobs, inventory usage, and any quality issues. Provide feedback to ownership and upper management regarding production performance, job progress, and areas for improvement. Monitor and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) related to production efficiency, quality, and on-time delivery.
Qualifications:
Strong knowledge of printing processes, equipment, and materials, including prepress, press, and bindery operations. Experience in offset, digital printing, and bindery is a plus.
Skills:
Exceptional leadership and team management skills, with a focus on fostering teamwork and maintaining morale in a family-oriented setting. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, for clear interaction with team members, customers, and other departments. Strong problem-solving abilities and the ability to troubleshoot issues in real-time during production. Good organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Education and Certifications:
High school diploma or equivalent; further education or certifications in printing technology, management, or related fields is preferred.
Working Conditions:
